I have a beretta 12 ga. O/U that I have owned for years but the stock is a tad too long. I'm considering another O/U purchase and I need this one to fit correctly.

Is the "fit" measured by placing the butt of the stock in your elbow and seeing if you can pull the trigger?

Are shotguns sold in different lengths for fit?

If you can't it is very definately too long. There are other issues as well, drop, cast and so on. The above advice is well taken. Call your nearest clay bird facility and find out who is the local guru.

My father used to say one finger width shy of the crook of the elbow, except for duck guns which required another 3/8 inch to allow for clothing. You see where this is going....

Using the crook of the elbow has nothing to do with FIT. Fit has more factors to it - seeing a good stock fitter is the best advice - and your local gunsmith is rarely, if ever, a stock fitter. LOP, pitch, drop at heel, drop at comb, cast, and toe cannot be measured by the elbow trick

Most factor stocks are too long. Others above know more than I. What I've done is had my stocks cut so LOP is 13 and 5/8ths inches. I picked that distance because many of my favorite to use rifles have that LOP. Its better for a stock to be slightly shorter LOP than slightly longer.

Many variables go into gun fit. The end result of proper fit is that the gun shoots where you are looking.

Call Wenig stock works in Missouri and ask them if they work with a stock fitter in your area.
