after spending way to much money on arrows and way to much time tinkering with my barnett crossbow trying to make it shoot well enough to hunt with out to 25 yards I finally got fed up and decided i could never be able to ethically hunt with that POS weapon.:cuss: :cuss:
I therefore reduced it to a pile of rubble with a magazine full of 45s out of my 1911 and 2 clips out of my 1903.
Now I am limited to bucks only during our fairly short modern gun season:(
I was hoping to be able to put some meat in the freezer by shooting a couple of the many does that live on or cross through my property. oh well, maybe next year

I guess I just needed to rant

I thought about selling it. But I couldnt do that with a clear conscience. If I sold it, either an ethical hunter would get it and get just as frustrated as me, or a slob would have gotten it an maybe gut shot a deer. Neither scenario is something I wanted to be responsible for.

It may have been juvinile and illogical, but dang it felt good:neener:

Reminds me of what happened to my text books after Sr. Year

1. Ha ha. Good for you; working out some frustration. Wish I'd have been there to see that. Damn thing got what it deserved. :)

2. Now buy the best. They are found here:

or better yet, just get a regular bow (compound or recurve).

my barnett, and my proline before it, would often put one bolt on top of the other at 25 yards

what I found out, early on, is that the vibration from a crossbow will move pin sights around, and destroy any scope not designed for a crossbow. I learned to locktight sight pins in place, I learned that I would get two years max from a tasco pro point red dot.

trapperjohn....Pictures, man, pictures!!!!!!!!!!

We need pictures of the execution of the crossbow!!!!!!!!!!

Pictures?? hah, you all are obviously on the information "super highway". I, on the other hand, am on the information "deer trail". I am lucky to get connection speeds of 20 kbs:cuss:
Besides, my wife already disposed of the rubble.

Trapper,
I hope you gave the crossbow's remains a proper burial and said a few appropriate words over it.

How about trying a pistol instead? A good .44 Mag (with scope for those of us with older eyes) makes a fine alternative hunting weapon.

Good shooting and be safe.

by the way, this may be a dumb question, but are you sure you're in a state that allows x-bow hunting - or do you have a waiver due to disability or what? Because if you're not disabled, you're probably better off with a regular bow (compound, recurve, long, or self bow), because they're quieter - animals can and do jump the string oftentimes, and a crossbow makes this more likely. They do of course have 2 advantages over bows - the biggest one being that you are able to stay drawn, which eliminates the need for drawing, the resulting movement and sound associated with that often spooking game. The other advantage is slight - slightly easier to aim and hold aim during release, what with the trigger and all.

"...tinkering with my..." Isn't as good as spending time learning to shoot it.
Obviously from your comment you are very knowledgable on the subject. Please tell me what I did wrong.
In tinkering with it, i tried various holds, made sure my strings were marked so i had equal tension on either side, shot many many bolts through it, experimented wiht different weighted tips and different bolts, made sure everything was lubed, tried different methods of lubing, etc.

I guess I just wasted my time and should have asked you how to shoot it. Please enlighten me so i will know better next time.

Btw, crossbows are legal for anyone in my state.
