Full choke?

Kind of what I thought. I was told once that if you fired rifeled slugs in a Full choke barrel that it wouldn't stay full choke for long?

Not in my experience. The slug just gets a little smaller. I've never had any trouble firing a slug through a full choke whether fixed or a tube.

In days of yore, solid lead balls fired through tight chokes in the softer barrels then made oft deswaged the chokes.

The Forster slug used today was meant as a solution. Being hollow, the soft lead swages down. A Forster style slug will go through any choke without damage, though best results are oft with little choke.

I've gotten my best results with a modified choke. The current slug gun has a cylinder choke for now, but when funds allow....

There is no problem firing slugs through a Full choke. Done it many times.

question

The hollow based 'skirt' of the forster style slug, similar to the minie ball, is supposed to expand under pressure from the advancing propellant gas and hug the bore as it moves down it , right?

Doesn't the wad and or sabot interfere with that?

For it to work, wouldn't the slug have to be right on top of the powder? or else upon a smaller-than-bore diameter shot wad? or one of flimsy material easily surpassed by the gas column?
