Did anybody else see this: SilencerCo. It looks pretty cool. It has sections that you can make it longer or shorter to balance out the shotgun. The longer it is the quieter it is. I may have to buy a shotgun now just to order this. Not sure when they are going to start shipping to stores or if they already have.

You beat me to it! I was just about to post about this. From what I've read so far, it seems this was announced just a few hours ago at a special event near their facilities in Utah. I like that you can change the length to make it more maneuverable when you don't need to be super quiet. This would be great for hunting, since in an open area you would probably need just enough suppression to take the edge off. If you're going to use it indoors, perhaps maximum-suppression is desired. I think it would be cool if they offered a shorter (aka cheaper...aka less than $1,400 MSRP :uhoh:) version for shooters who only need a little suppression.

I'm not sure that I would order one just yet, although I'm sure I'll eventually convince myself that I "need" it :neener:

Very cool indeed.

Even with MSRP being $1400 after a year or so(once the newness wears off) hopefully you can get it for $900-1000. MSRP for Specwar 762 is $899 but I just bought one for $640. I know I will wait for some reviews before I buy another brand new design. The R51 killed that for me, even though it wasn't a brand new design it was a new firearm.

I'm curious to know what the insides look like. It has to be a different baffle design than a normal silencer, but I don't know what that design would be.

As much as I'd love to get one of these, I'll probably hold off for the time being and spend my money on other things. Considering this is the first major-production shotgun silencer for the US market, shotgun silencer designs are obviously in their infancy. If this proves to be popular and other companies start making their own designs, this SilencerCo model will probably be obsolete even more quickly than normal silencers. And prices will also come down quickly if other companies start making them.

Wow! I just bought a 40 acre hunting property and am strapped for cash. This is in my future. My 12.5" 870 SBS is crying out for this.

Right now coyote night hunting in AZ is limited to shotgun.

I'd be concerned about wads/shot cups striking the baffles particularly since cups slump on ignition. Since there are many different designs I wonder if they recommend a specific brand of shotshell. I have a Remington Versa Max Tactical and 3-1/2" is missing on the barrel because Remington discovered that the shells in the magazine tube slump and expand during recoil due to so much mass/inertia in the tube. Regardless, this suppressor would be way down my "want" list.

So do shotgun pellets moving faster than the speed of sound generate a sonic "crack"? I would think that they do.

When shot flies over you in the dove field, it sounds like a bunch of angry bees. I always assumed that that sound was composed of hundreds of little sonic booms, one for each bb. I would bet, given the bb's tiny size and poor aerodynamic shape, that they go subsonic relatively quickly.

Perhaps there is an internal tube-like structure that helps keep everything in a column? I don't know how else they would be able to prevent strikes

That video is pretty cool. I like that the barrel doesn't have to be threaded. I was wondering how it attached and now I know, through a removable choke. Very cool.
