Check it out, not sure if everyone saw this.....Could it be true?

Follow the link, the post is about 3/4 down. The post is in reference to shotgun use in the first world war:

"They were originally intended to be used for shooting grenades out of the sky before they landed in the trench. The pumps had better ergos than the bolt guns in close quarters, and that is the reason that they were used, not better ballistics."

Caca Del Toro.....

Even in 1917, the massive effect of a shotgun used in CQB was well known.

600 GIs armed with Model 97s were charged by 3000 Germans. The Germans were armed with their Mausers which fired 5 times without reloading and were capable of of killing or wounding an enemy with each shot.

The Yanks were armed with a weapon capable of firing 7 times without reloading and each round fired was capable of inflicting 9 fatal or disabling wounds. Do the math.

The Germans were destroyed. They protested that the shotgun was inhumane, though they had no probs with poison gas, incendiaries, massed heavy machine gun fire and land mines.

'97s were employed to knock grenades out of the air or off course. I've got a Norinco repro of the old 1897, I think its more reliable than my 870! ...though I've yet to get up the courage to take the thing apart, the Chinese aparently don't think anyone needs a disassembly/maintinance guide for their shotgun, an owner's manual was not included in my box.

I prefer shooting birds or clay pigeons with a shotgun....the consequences of missing are far less painful.
