Is there such a thing as a choke for revolvers, pistols, or rifles shooting shotshells? The rifling in these barrels spread the shot much worse than a smoothbore, and it would seem that some type of bolt on choke would dramatically improve the pattern of the shot out past 15 feet. Just wondering.

I have a .410/45 pistol that uses a straight rifled screw on choke but you have to take it off for 45colt to clear the muzzle.
I think there is too much force for a bolt on choke probably have to be threaded into or over the barrel.

I have a .357 mag barrel for my Thompson Center Contender that is threaded for a shot shell choke. I bought the gun used but the choke was not with the barrel. My understanding is that for a while T/C made barrels that would accept chokes in .38, .357 and 44.

What are you trying to shoot/accomplish?

Trying to make a handgun into a shotgun seems to me to be an exercise that guarantees frustration.

I know trick shot entertainers have used smoothbore handguns in performances. Roy Rogers used them a lot in rodeo appearances. Are you a rodeo entertainer?

If you are really at risk of being bitten by a poisonous snake, a shotgun would be a better choice to carry in my opinion.

Shotguns are very good at throwing shot patterns. Handguns are very good at throwing bullets in close quarters. Asking one type of firearm to do a job it was not designed for seems unfair!

I’m not tryin* to do anything. I was just pondering the idea, and I figured that if such a creature existed, someone here would know about it. Someone always chimes in with an “it already exists” or a reason why it isn’t feasible.
