Be concerned first about a source for primers. There are options for powders, so consider that less scarce. I get shot directly from Mayco Industries (Lawrence Brand) https://maycoindustries.com/ammunition/lead-shot/. I use #8 Chilled, avoiding magnum as more likely to come back off steel onto the cowboy action gallery at close range, not that such is a constant problem. I use Extralite powder, MEC #25 bushing, Win209 primer, grey wad, 7/8 oz #8 chilled shot, Win AA, STS, or Federal Gold Medal hulls, all same load and wad. I also use Clays powder, which can use the same bushing etc. Powder Valley had Extralite one pounders at 2:15 PM when I ordered some.

Just a quick update-got to try out the loads Saturday, and they performed very well! Similar recoil to Win AA Heavy Target loads, but with 1 oz instead of 1 1/8oz of shot. Shot about 125 rounds in a trap shoot with some friends, and feel confident in the load! Thank you so much to all of you guys for the good advice, and willingness to help out a shotshell newbie like myself. Cheers!
