Should I be concerned about the few surface pits?
My two most accurate rifles have crowns I did myself with common tools and a $0.50 brass screw. I would agree.People who have defied the conventional "wisdom" and actually tested "bad crowns" suggest its highly over-rated as an issue:

Why is it pitted?

Probably tearing from improper RPM of the lathe, dull insert, setup geometry or any combination of these things.
Don't worry about those pits. It will not affect the bullet leaving the barrel in any way. There could be multiple reasons , as has been pointed out, for the pits.
