Should I be concerned about this crown?

The picture shows a Howa 1500 6.5 Grendel barrel I had threaded a few months ago. I clean the crown every hundred rounds or so as it does tend to build up carbon under the muzzle brake.

Should I be concerned about the few surface pits? They're probably filled with carbon by now for all I know.

People who have defied the conventional "wisdom" and actually tested "bad crowns" suggest its highly over-rated as an issue:

I had a CZ .22 LR barrel shortened and threaded by a local "gunsmith" who basically did nothing to clean the muzzle up and left it with what definitely qualified as a bad crown. It shot patterns at 25 yds, and was the least accurate rifle I've ever seen. A little TLC with some valve grinding compound a brass round head screw and a hand drill fixed it right up and brought the accuracy from dismal to quite good. I guess other's mileage may vary, but the results were crystal clear for me.

Probably tearing from improper RPM of the lathe, dull insert, setup geometry or any combination of these things.

Could be, but in that case I'd expect the pitting to arc and follow the machining lines, not be scattered randomly on the surface.

Eh, lots of possible causes...

Don't worry about those pits. It will not affect the bullet leaving the barrel in any way. There could be multiple reasons , as has been pointed out, for the pits.

As they are now, I agree the pits aren't a problem. The only reason I'd worry is if the pits get worse. Then they could impact the crown and cause problems.
