At the range today, I met a couple of guys who work at a local gunshop that brought in several crates of Yugo SKS rifles two months ago for $99 each. I got one and was absolutely pleased with the quality of the purchase. 100% blue, all matching numbers, the stock was dinged and scratched but, man, it shoots great and groups very good.
Now, they tell me they have two more crates in and priced a little higher [$109] for the same gun.
Question is....do I go for another one?
Possible justifications are:
It out-shoots my Chinese
I can use it as a "truck rifle"
I can use it in the "home defense arsenal"
It is a good investment

Well what do you think?

everyone around here seems to be of the mind that you should get them while the getting is good... sounds like in a few years they may start jumping in price, so you may as well get an extra one or two now while they're hanging around $100

If it's from Interordnance, it is probably NOT collectible. Gunboards.com has a pretty big thread on this regarding their new 91/30 PU sniper rifles, which appear to be newly converted from other 91/30 mosin-nagants. Many are commenting how this echoes their Yugo SKS, which don't havee the serial number stamped on all the parts or a serial number that fits in with previous Yugo serial numbers.

Still, I have an I/O rifle and it would make a good truck gun except for a extra 4 inches for the grenade launcher getting in the way.

I say get it. I've been really thinking hard about picking up another one from AIM. I just purchased one recently and it's a pretty good shooter. I don't think the wife would much appreciate it though at Chirstmas time. Wonder if I could "let" her buy if for me.

Langenator, yugos aren't banned in cali. they just have to castrate them before shipment here. I've got one with a muzzle break and another that had a sleeve welded over the grenade launcher. I took that one to a machine shop and had the grenade launcher and sleeve cut off. I recrowned the barrel. It came out quite nice I might add. Shoots, and looks great too. Mark

I know that there are PRK-legal modified Yugo SKS's out there. They cost extra and have the offending bits removed. But the inexpensive ones sold by AIM, I/O, and others aren't usually PRK legal.

I do find it highly amusing the the PRK seems to feel it necessary to put a firearm classified by the ATF as the "Curio & Relic" on their "Dangerous Weapons" list. (Just an aside, but aren't all weapons, by definition, dangerous?)

The SKS has a FATAL flaw according to Ruger.

It WORKS!

It is more accurate than a Mini-14!

You can Hunt Deer with It!

It costs $300 less!

Obviously a Mini-14 is better! NOT! :D

If Bill Ruger were still alive, he'd try to get semi-auto rifles with fixed mags banned.

For a little more than a saw buck, why not? The worst that could happen is you sell it for what you paid for it.

Well, let's see, what did I do this morning? Oh yeah, I ordered a Yugo SKS. Now, you've already got one, so the second one may be optional, but I'll bet a nickle you could sell your second one for a profit two years from now. And if something happens in the meantime where you need it, that's just all the more reason to get one. The prices are so good right now, it just makes sense to get them while the getting is good.
