Luckily I'm in a business where guns change hands a lot. I have come across the oppurtunity to pick up a S&W 1911 with the front rail and laser grip options, has had just shy of 50 rounds ran through it and was purchased new this past October by a trusted fella. He wants to let go of it in order to get a H&K piece and his wife has set the limit of pistols in the home. He is offering me this weapon for $800. He is also including a light for the weapon, its not a surefire, and I can't recall the make the light. Just thought I'd ask some of you what you thought. The grips are the Crimson Trace factory option.

depending on the light that came with it i would probally go for that. sounds nice and a nice set up. the ct grips are worth alot right there. like ew gun, i love rails, and a light too, if it looks good as i should being that youg then i would probally grab it. bu always haggle the price the cheaper you can get it the better but that is true with most things.

I'm not too familiar with the S&W 1911 line (didn't think it was very extensive to begin with), but that sounds tempting.

From what I can tell, once you get above about $900 in the 1911 world and beyond Sig, S&W, and a few others, you're paying for something other than reliability and accuracy. I am by no means, of course, an expert in the matter.

$800 is a fairly standard price for a SW1911 with CTC factory laser grips. I bought one last year for $659. I sold off the laser grips for $200, and ended up with a $459 SW1911. Here's a range report.

The SW1911 is a good, reliable pistol. Some condemn it's external extractor, but the thing works, unlike the external extractors tried by other makers. The FPS of the SW1911 is also a non-issue. For the money, the SW1911 is a good choice.

That being said, for the pistol you are talking about, I would not go over $700 for the entire package. That's assuming the light is a good one. The good thing is you can easily sell off the CTC grips and light if you don't like them. Same with the light.

Be aware that holsters for railed 1911s are not as plentiful.

Thanks for the opinions, appreciated. I am going to get it, I can't really haggle as that is the price he needs to secure his new baby. Its in mint condition no marks or blemishes. I'm not sure as I'll like the laser grips as I'm one to index my trigger finger along the frame as well and I'd obscure the laser doing so...but we'll give it a try. I'll let y'all know how it operates

I'm with Xavier, think your doing this friend a favor by paying $800, tell him he owes you one. You do realize you'll be married to this pistol and that divorce is expensive.
