I found a GP100 4" bbl on gunbroker for 375. This seems like a good deal to me. However, I really wanted a stainless GP...should I just take this one? would it make too much of a difference besides just aesthetics?? I know how to clean my guns and am not worried about rust or negligence. I guess I just want some opinions. Thanks guys!

Is that the OTD price or is it plus shipping and ffl charge. If it is the latter then I would say you should be able to get a stainless one for that price. I saw a GP100 awhile back for $375 at a local shop. It was stainless but had fixed sights. At another shop the stainless one with fixed sights was $420. So, I would say $375 out the door for a blue model is a good price. If you wait you can probably find a similar deal on a stainless one though.

No...thats before all of the extra shipping charges and transfer charges. Guess its not such a good deal then? Seems like there's nothing here for lower than 580 at a store!:(

Yeah, that is high, at least for around here. You could check backpage.com, or maybe your state has a shooting website? We have one and there are good deals to be found in the classifieds section. Good luck.

Cutter, save up a little more money and order a stainless one, I got one for $525.00 from my local gun shop. That was out the door. Nothing wrong with a blued one either. I just wanted a stainless one and that is what I got. If you are set on a stainless one, wait and get what you want. JMHO.

Unless you have a compelling reason to get one ASAP, I'd pass and wait until you find the stainless. It's not enough of a deal to make the sacrifice worthwhile.

On the other hand, I wanted an S&W 29, but I "settled" when I found a 629 Classic for $400 last weekend.

I got it!

I went ahead and bought it. After a while, I decided that the only thing stopping me was the aesthetics. I had never really looked at a blued GP closely, but now I am very happy with my purchase. It looks perrty Here are some pics!!:D

Actually I prefer high carbon steel over stainless. :what:

Yes, I know... the market is sold on stainless, and to a degree the manufacturers are too because they don't have to polish and blue it - and both of those are expensive operations.

But firearms engineers often have a different opinion. While most of them have gone along with the trend for commercial sales, some haven't - such as Glock. Most of the world's military forces don't use stainless small arms, except perhaps in special circumstances. The stainless steel alloys used in most firearms applications are strong, but on the soft side.

Blued guns may require more loving care, but in exchange I think they take better care of you. So it's an even trade-off. ;)
