How big are your hands?
The G17 is a big frame gun for those with medium to smaller hands and a handful to get a grip on. I suspect that the G26 may actually fill the hands of someone with smaller hands better, and 9mm isn't that overwhelming of a cartridge to handle in smaller guns.
I've owned 2 G17s (still have one), and while I got decent with them, the never felt great for me to shoot compared to single stacks...
