Show and or tell how you did. What gun and which ammo did you use? What are you going to try next?

Tried a little trick shooting with my 9mms and 22. 9s were 147 grain Berrys hand loads and 22 was Aguila SE blue box 1130 fps.

ETA: the powder scoop in the picture was NOT used for the 9mm hand loads. I just noticed how huge it is. I'm currently tinkering with 308 loads.

Did this with my scoped M1A Loaded model a few weeks ago. Ammo is my loads, LC brass, 41.5 grains H4895, 168grain Sierra Match King. The orange 6 is for 600 yards.

Next, I want to get some pictures of my 6.5 Grendel even further out, 800 yards or better.

I did this last Wednesday with my BHP.40 at 15 yards:

Unfortunately, I’m limited to 100 yards on state gamelands(which are very nice ranges). I’d love to have some property where I could go farther. Even 500yards would be great. Beautiful rifle!!!

Heck no but I like to try a little every now and then. Those were only 5 yards with the Shield and M&P9. The Victory and probably Blackhawk can do it from 10 yards if I’m REALLY having a good day. They Blackhawk at least shoots bigger bullets.

I built a .260 Remington* from a Savage model 16 action and a Criterion 24” Light Varmint barrel from Northland Shooters Supply…it is in a Bell and Carlson stock with Leupold scope …I am still developing loads, but the three brightest impact shots are less than 2” at 200 yards, so i’m feeling pretty good so far…120g Barnes Match Burner over H380.

My idea was to make an all weather deer rifle for upstate NY…looking forward to the opening of the season in the northern zone.

*I went with .260 Remington over 6.5 Creedmore because I’m old-fashioned, and because when I built this I could find .260 Rem brass and dies, and Creedmore was unavailable…

Black Rig With 617.jpg
Had fun today shooting our Monthly Steel Challenge Match with my 617 shooting in the RFPO class since there is no class for a .22 revolver.
I was top revolver today by .35 seconds. My average is coming down and it's 40 seconds faster that my normal shooting.
I'm learning to keep rolling the trigger from plate to plate and .et the gun go off as a surprise. This has helped me to no longer fear my accuracy especially shooting 5 - Go.
I even had one run on Smoke & Hope under 3 seconds. That made me happy.

I haven't seen a break front holster since I shot PPC in the 1970's. Nice looking setup. I suppose the bag is for your empties? How much slower (if at all) is it to dump in the bag rather than on the ground?

The bag is because I'm shooting my 617 .22 lr pistol and I put my speed loaders in the bag as well as dumping the cartridges.
I later take the cartridges out and separate the loaded and spent cases.
With this setup I never have to drop the loaders and
bullets on the ground.

Well the setup did it's job this weekend. I took first place in C Class against the automatics and my score was better than any other revolver shooter.

I've got a long way to go to get back to my shooting from years ago but I'm moving towards it at a decent pace.

Went to an indoor range today with a neighbor for the first time since Covid started, nice to be shooting again.

I took a Buckmark .22, a S&W 65 .357, and a military Underwood M-1 Carbine, neighbor took a full sized aluminum framed 9mm Ruger and a Bersa .380.

Went through a bunch of ammo, had a really good time, and was glad to see I could still shoot fairly well. At least good enough to out shoot the neighbor. lol

He really zoned in on the Carbine, enjoyed shooting it and shot it well. Unfortunately, had to burst his bubble when he asked what they were going for.

From Cell Phone.jpg

Practice day with my 617. I really like shooting this gun. I played with the trigger a little and upped the weight from 6.5 pounds to 7.8 pounds.

I also replaced the rebound spring, changing from and 11 pound spring to a 2 pounder.

Reasons are: I wanted to shoot a larger variety of ammo and at 6.5 pounds CCI Mini Mags would not go off. At 7.8 they all detonate as normal.

I found that I was out racing the trigger, so I replaced the rebound spring. This insures that the ratchet is in the slot after each shot. Without that I had one shot go off between the cylinders. Not a good thing. I short stroked the trigger and the next shot the bullet was not directly behind the chamber.

I finally got the sights set how I want for my Henry H001. The original front sight shot 4-5" high at 50 yards on the lowest setting of the rear ramp. I called Henry and they sent a replacement that was from their 22 Mag version. It wouldn't zero better than 4" low on the highest ramp notch. I finally got it zeroed at 1/2" high on the lowest setting at 25 yards with Thunderbolts. That should do for a generic high velocity 22 ammo setting. After that I promptly mounted a Simmons 4x scope and zeroed for 50 yards. I'm not sure I like a scope on this rifle, but even if I leave the scope, I want the iron sights to work.

With the scope it shoots one hole groups at 25 yards and holds about 1" - 1.5" at 50 yards with the Thunderbolts. I bought a bunch of them before the pandemic started but the Henry levergun is the only one that will cycle them reliably. My Marling 60's and my S&W Victory don't like them. Accuracy is good, reliability is not.

I'll give Henry a back pat for having good tolerances on their front sight/barrel bands. When I put the new band on, I didn't have to change windage at all. I don't mean to ramble, but I've been working on this for a while, 10 to 20 passes with a file on the front sight at a time.
