Sounds fun.
For Whitetail stalking the nod goes to the 357max with 2X Tasco.

Once I get to the stand we're looking at either the 308 Striker...

Or the 6tcu...

Man do I love 45-70's, can't post a pic but mine is a Tikka T-3 300wsm with a Bushnell Elite 3200.

.30WCF/Tasco Pro Point 2X with taper dot reticule. No cape buffalo in Texas, just deer and hogs.

OK- those are some awesome hand cannons! I imagine it's heavy woods where you are. We need the long shot up here.
Tcrocker- I too love the 45-70. May have to add one. Love the Guide gun.
Sur- We'd to see it!

That 308 is good out to 250-300, that's as far as I'd take a shot with any rig on deer.
The 6tcu is pretty decent out farther than that, but not on deer sized critters.

My Contender is capable of taking deer to 200 yards with a good field rest. That's about the limit of a .45-70 ballistically I'd think, haven't run the numbers. But, it's gotta be droppin' like a rock by then. I've got a 200 yard zero on the .30-30. :D I shoot Nosler 150 Ballistic tips, BTW.

I've got a 7mm TCU I used in IHMSA for a while, thought about scoping it. Might someday.

The only hunting I've done have been with my old savage .22 or my remington 870, they aren't much to look, but they work just fine.

Remington 700 in .30-06, for mule deer and various other big game. I haven't gone hunting with it due to college interfering with hunting season, but as soon as I graduate next year I'll be putting in for some tags.

Rem870_12ga.jpg
Remington 870, 12 gauge. It's setup for HD right now, but I've got an 28" barrel I use specifically for bird hunting.

Stevens Model 66B in .22LR. This is my all-purpose small game rifle. I mostly use it for ground squirrels.

9 pounds worth, still looking for a holster, or maybe some training wheels.:D

As long as we're showing off our small game rigs....

And my "the damned thing won't stand still" small game rig...

I have only gotten to carry it on two hunts so far, and both times I turned down the only opportunities presented.

Hopefully my schedule/budget will allow me to start up again shortly.

Here are a few pictures of my newest rig...

Its a Marlin XTR .45-70 that has been cut down to 16.5". I added XS sights and scout rail. I have an Aimpoint Micro T-1 dot sight on it.

Its so new I have not even had a chance to work up loads with it yet. Can't wait for some cooler weather!

Savage 110 in 7mm-08. The original Simmons scope is still on it. I was planning on putting a Nikon Buckmaster on it at the time that I purchased it, but I've come to really like the cheap Simmons scope. Very clear at 9x, and has held zero for the last 200 rounds. 140 grain Nosler BT with 41 grains of Varget puts 5 in a .75" hole. I'm not sure if deer can see that color blue or not...

I am going to start the deer season with this rifle, a Mexican Mauser98 Model 1912 in 7x57mm. The scope is a Barska 3x9x42 , barrel is a douglas #2. I have yet to "blood" this rig but am ready for deer, coyote and hogs. Photos wont load "too big"

I don't go hunting, but i've used my H&R 755 to shoot the living sh*t out of a squirrel. I've also shot at "Big cats" that like to walk through my front lawn with a Mossberg 500a.
