Look at these grips -
Genuine bookmatched whoolly mammoth teeth slabs set in Gabon Ebony. Natural color! Setting them in solid wood negates any worry about daily carry and use begin to tough on them. How many people can say that they're holding 50,000 years of history in their hands? A LOT of work, but well worth it I think.
Enjoy the pics!

Buckey Burl - I included the pair pic because my wife says "It looks like a wolf staring at me from out of the grips". I can see it. Anyway, a beautiful wood.

Two matched sets done in commander and officer sizes in White Box Elder Burl. I love this wood! 100% burl coverage and an outstanding depth to it when finished. Great stuff!

I'm currently working on a set of spalted hackberry grips for the 1911 as well. These things take time...

Those Buckmark grips are very nice!

Here's Spalted Afzelia Xylay. I hadn't even seen any of this wood type spalted until a few months ago, and since then one of my suppliers has been getting blocks in with some of it along the edges. I don't know if it's something they usually let go as waste when cutting the tree or if it's just not a "normal" thing that's found, but I love the combination of sapwood, heartwood, and spalt. Beautiful wood.

Let's face it, Cocobolo has been overdone and is usually quite boring in grips any more, but once in a while I come across a piece that is interesting and that's what the pics show. Pretty neat swirling grain pattern and good color.
Enjoy!

I couldn't agree with you more. Cocobolo on pistols is similar to walnut stocks on rifles. You see it all the time and most of the time, it's overly hyped. But then you see one that blows your mind. It's all about the character in the wood. Anyone can cut out a set of grips from a piece of rare wood. But unless they know what they're doing and what they're looking for, it will look like just another common piece of wood.

It's my turn to agree with YOU. I don't know how many times I've bought an entire board or block just because I liked a 3" x 5" section of it. It's all about letting the beauty of the wood shine through and make the statement. :)

Marblewood is something that not too many people get to see often. Striking patterns.
Enjoy!

A beautiful wood pic for the weekend.
Afzelia Xylay. The most 3D wood you'll ever see. It really makes you doubt your eyes. You would swear that your finger is going to touch the ridges that are so obviously raised off the surface of the wood, but when you touch it, it's perfectly smooth. Freaky and cool all at once. It's getting harder and harder to find it in this level of figure, so I enjoy it while it's here.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
