Has anyone tried Sierra's 168 gr Tipped Match King? Haven't been reloading for M1A very long and trying different bullets. The only one I have tried so far is Sierra's 168 gr HPBT Match King.

"Due to the ballistic advantage that the tip provides, the 168 Tipped MatchKing (TMK)
will stay supersonic at 1,000 yards at normal .308 Winchester velocities, unlike its
untipped [HPBT] counterpart."

While ballistics might be slightly better, I don't know why it would function any differently
than the standard SMK in the M1A

I've not tried the TMK's yet, but have shot a bunch of Hornady tipped 168 AMax's and ELD-M's in Garands. They function the same as a HPBT, and I get the sense that they are more accurate (based on match scores) and have been buying them recently. I'll guarantee that the Hornady's aren't less accurate than HPBT's and I'd guess the Sierra's are pretty similar.

I had the old 168 SMKs tumble before they reached 1000 yards. That was before Sierra put the 175 SMK on the market, and that is good enough of a bullet, all the way out to 1000 yards, that I don't see a reason to shoot a 168 of any type, past 600 yards.

Maybe Sierra has jiggered the printed ballistic coefficient for the 168 TMK. I have friends who chase the bullet du jour with the highest ballistic number.
