I have a Sig 239 deal up in the air. It's a 239 in 357 Sig. I know its probably been discussed before...

I can change it to 40 S&W by just ordering another barrel for it?

Yes, No? 9mm also or would that require different mags and extractor, etc..

THX.

The .357SIG magazines will NOT work for the .40 caliber conversion. If you buy a .40 caliber and convert it to .357SIG the .40 caliber magazines WILL work with the .357SIG round.

O thrower of seas, why is that? I can think of two reasons:

1. The magazine lips are set up for the shorter "full-width" portion of the 357 SIG case, and don't hold enough of the .40 S&W case;

2. The magazine follower is shaped around the bottleneck case of the 357 SIG, and thus can't hold the .40 S&W case in proper alignment.

If (1), there's not much you can do except buy new magazines. However, if (2), surely you could just buy replacement followers from SIG and install them?

I have the P239 ...in both flavors. It came as a .40 and I bought a 357SIG barrel from Cheaper than Dirt for about $130. Then I bought a bunch of .40 magazines which DO work for both cartridges. I am happy.

The 9mm has to be a Barsto conversion and all new mags. I would rather buy an original P239 in 9mm...you'd never be able to trust the conversion enough to carry it.
