Sig 322 question

I’ve shot this a few times and for the life of me, I can’t hit anything. From 15 yards I get about a 12 inch spread. This is with minimag. It almost looks like a shotgun pattern. For comparison, I can shoot my 38 at that distance with a 3 inch group. Same thing with my little $100 heritage revolver.

I had a friend also shoot it and couldn’t even get it on paper.

I noticed the rear site has a little flex and play. Is that normal? It looks like it’s designed to do that. Overall I’m really unimpressed with it… anyone have feedback or suggestions?

Have you tried different ammo? .22lr ammo and guns seem to be the most finicky caliber out there, possibly.

I’m a huge fan of CCI in .22lr, but not the minimag versions. Their standard velocities and subsonic just seem to shoot more accurately for me and my firearms.

I would try a few more ammo variations before giving up on the gun, IMHO.

The Sig 322 had early reports of barrels leading up similarly to the Taurus TX22 take a look down your barrel and see if its leaded up.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll give it a good cleaning and try again. I was also using blazer which didn’t improve the results.

I understand that 22 can be picky, but the marketing behind this pistol was that it could handle any 22 ammo.

Yeah the marketing said it was reliable too. So far I’m finding the marketing to be mostly hogwash. Hopefully I can get mine running well enough to actually use it in matches.

Am surprised by the numerous posts of problems with the 322. I bought one the day they launched, very low serial # and the thing shoots very well, rarely a malfunction with it, eats anything I feed it. Sometimes I cause a malfunction by loading the mags wrong. I like the 322, but my TX22s are better shooters. Am really hoping Taurus does an optic ready 4" TX22, the Competition is fun but I still enjoy blasting with the 4" more.

The more I think about it, when I looked at my target I noticed what looked like key holes rounds. I’ve never had any before but i think it’s making sense now. I had fired a lot of automatch through it previously. I’ll have to take it to the range again soon and see how it performs.

I picked my TX22 within the first three weeks they were available and it has run like a Swiss watch. Shoots everything. I went 690 rds before cleaning it and the barrel was clean as a whistle. And I expected my TX-22 Competition to smoke it, but they went blow for blow at 25yds.

Here’s a video overview including some possibly tedious ammo reliability testing.

Short answer: lots of light strikes with Aguila super extra plated and LRN, light strikes and feeding issues with Federal automatch, couple feeding failures with CCI Mini-Mag, no issues IIRC with Remington SV from CMP, feeding issues and jams with Winchester 333 bulk. Winchester 36 grain varmint ran one mag I think, new federal champion feeding issues for first couple of mags but last two mags, approaching 500 rounds through the gun, no issues. So it’s a mixed bag for sure. I’m going to shim the mainspring I think.

After a good cleaning it performed a lot better. Maybe a 3-4 inch group with mini mags. Still not that impressed though if I have to deep clean a 22 every time I shoot it… might just sell it and get something else.

Yeah, that would bother me also. My ruger MKIII 22/45 went 10,000 rounds between deep cleanings. I'd just wipe the bolt down once in a while and keep it lubed. Was still running fine and accurate.
