The tube is the commercial version AR15 size - so commercial version stocks are a direct swap out.

AR15 pistol grips do not work however.

check out sigforum.com

Goodness, did they actually start putting correct 550 series handguards on them and they include iron sights now? Sounds like they listened to the interwebs. Might look into one now.

go to http://sigarms556.com. they've got a TON of info/ideas on these guns.
You'll have to do a bit of digging, but there is a guy on that forum that did fit a MIAD grip on his 556. It took some minor modifications to the handle and the bolt that holds it on, but he got it to work just fine. Good luck!

I'm look at the Sig556 DMR (and I plan on slap'n a EOtech scope on it). I like the 5.56x45mm NATO rounds it shoots. I was also looking at the Sig556 HOLO too.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice with this AR. This is my first AR, thought is about time to get one to add to my massive growing rifle (and handgun) collection. Thanks.

BTW: Nice look'n AR ya go there! Have fun!!!

I wouldn't bother getting the HOLO version. I did and the SIG Holo Sight is a bit of a disappointment. Get an Optics Ready Version and purchase a quality optic, and quality BUIS.

This helped me with my Front Sight removal....

You should check this site out too. Do a search for Holo Sight, and I'm sure it'll change your mind.

It has more in common with an AK than an AR and is a decendent of the AK line of the ugly black rifle tree.

an EOTech barely clears the bolt handle, but it does work and is an excellent optic.

Don't waste the money on the Sig-holo site. It is some cheap chinese thing.

I really like mine and shoot it every chance I get. I didn't need another tacticool, so I set it up for varmint. It's about a 1 MOA gun with 62gr match. Would love to find a Match-grade barrel for it.

So what should I get. Nix the HOLO! What about the DMR? Thanks for the help! I just want a good AR10 or AR15 that kicks ass and it fun to shoot! I do not want a .233 caliber though, I would perfer the 5.56 NATO.

5.56 Nato and .223 are about the same. Diamensionally, they are identical. Many rifles such as Bushmaster mark their rifles 5.56/.223. The pressures of 5.56 can be greater than those developed by .223 because they are measured differently and held to different standards.

The experts say it's okay to shoot .223 in 5.56, but not the other way around. I personally have never had an issue (I have a bolt gun in '.223' that I shoot '5.56' in mostly). The same goes with the .308win vs the 7.62x51 Nato, again, I've never had a problem.

So long as your rifle is 5.56 Nato, the experts will be happy to let you shoot .223 in it all day long. The Sig is 5.56 Nato.

Thx for the link gcrookston.

I find myself in the same boat, as I have just bought a 556 with the folding stock. I'm going with a Leupold 63300 for glass, but need BUIS, as teh 'emergency sights' that came with are pretty marginal.

The Aurora stuff is nice, has anyone gone with the Samson front and ???? rears?

TIA

Ok, here it goes; I'm looking for a solid AR15 or AR10 with a decent scope (don't mind spending the extra cash on it) and I would perfer 5.56 NATO.

Can someone please point me to the rifle that fits the above criteria. Thank you so much and that you guys for the input. I'd also like to appoligize for kind of thread jacking.

Dude, I already said I was sorry. Damn. Just shared a similar interest as the original starter of the thread that's all. GoodGreef, I guess you missed the apology. Trouble reading or need glasses????

Thx, 'troop.

BTW, the forearm on riflew in the 1st post look like it's from a 551. I have the folding stock model, but the forearm/heat shield I have rails on all four sides and look like the pics on teh SIG site. What's up?

I wouldn't bother getting the HOLO version. I did and the SIG Holo Sight is a bit of a disappointment.

Like GCrookston said, the Sig Holo Sight is just a rebranded $40 NcStar optic with "Sig Tac" written on the side of it.

nice rifle pics!
dang, these three NEW sig556 mags are hard to get rid of. even at $50 for all three w/ 2 mag couplers.

A funny thing happened . . .

over the weekend. I got a call from "Jen" @ SigArms, congratulating me on my purchase and thanking me for the business. She then went on to say that they had some sort of owner rewards program going and could offer me half price on Sig accessories, magazines, range bags, etc. Anyone else had any experience with this 'program'?

I allowed as how that was a nice thing, I've owned a bunch of Sig handguns, but was pretty well equipped with extra mags, etc., but we finally settled on a pair of 30 rounders for the 556 for $30. How nice!

I've had the rifle for all of two weeks (this is my first rifle in a loooong time), have only beeen able to put 40 rnds thru w/ the 'emergency' sights , and am still getting it tricked out. I'm still waiting for a Leupold red dot, a delivery from AmmoMan, got a couple of Magpol mags (2-20's & a 30 - they're really neat mags -to try out) besides the 30 rnd Sig mag that came with (the dealer threw in 1 each 20 & 30 rnd Brownell mags), need BUIS, a sling, and generally getting re-educated on modern carbines, some fun!

wow, that is a pretty good deal on sig mags. $50shipped for mine sounds about right. they are brand new.

Update

Well, the Leupold arrived today. Put it together, mounted on the rifle, and I like it. I used the tallest spacer, about 6" of releif, and I really like the basic view - very bright and well defined, and quick enough on target. I like dealing with a single plane of focus. Proabably won't bother with the illumination much, it just points up quickly & well unlit. I'm 60, retired, the rifle is for fun and maybe HD, I'm not going to war (I hope).

The proof will be in he shooting, of course, but it is intersting that web reviews were either 'hate it' or 'love it', not much in between. My initial reaction is positive. So far, so good. FWIW
