Not my gun but interesting. This was recently sold as a CPO

P1030195.jpg

P1030196.jpg

So here's what he has:
- Railed Frame
- New Polymer Sig P226 grips
- Slide that says Sig Sauer Sigarms Exeter NH (Doesn't say P226)
- Slide has German Proof Markings on the side near the dust cover and the letters KF
- It doesn't say stainless on the slide at all

So he has a 1995 Carbon slide
With post 2004 German made railed slide....
But he markings on the slide are off and show odd nomenclature.

I wonder if its for real...

I have a friend who runs a class3 business and deals with a lot of rare/odd weapons.
He has great connections w/ SIG, Knight's & FN and others, thus, is quite knowledgable about these odd things. He has a couple of this P226 variant.
It's essentially a parts gun/transitional model/ contract overrun, so to speak.
The reason the slide is relatively spartan and has no "P226" is that it is an older non-stainless, German made slide for the U.S. Navy essentially fitted to a newer frame.
This was most likely a transitional gun that just so happened to be a contract overrun from when the Navy was switching over from the older P226 to the newer ones with the rail frame and blackened stainless slide.
The newer Navy contract P226s have the black stainless one piece milled slides, whereas the one in the pic has the older "hollow" slide w/ the pinned-in breech-block.
This particular set-up was most likely intended for the SBU units (Special Boats Units) that are part of the Navy Special Warfare Command that support Seals and other Scecial Operations Forces by transporting them into all sorts of maritime/coastal/riverine areas of operation. They started getting P226s quite a while ago and as the Seals get the newer stuff, the SBUs often get the hand-me-downs and weapons made from parts or to the older specifications.
As this is most likely a contract overrun, this means the SBU and other supporting units of the NSWC are getting the newer spec weapons in their inventory

I have several CPOs, and my impression has always been that they are assembled from batches of refinished parts. I would not be surprised to see later frames mated to earlier slides, all of different lineages....

99% of all CPOs I have come into contact with were turn in guns from police buyback programs. The thousands that came through CDNN a few year back were not parts guns. Everyone I have ever held had matching serial numbers.

Maybe this is the state of current CPOs. I have not bought one in over 2 years. There is nothing wrong with a parts gun but it is odd to see.

I purchased a P220 CPO about a year and a half ago. It is the "normal" model, all black, no rail or night sights or anything fancy. The only odd thing is that the slide is marked "P220ST" which is for the full stainless model. Mine has an alloy frame.

I don't think it's unusual for CPOs to be Frankenguns.
