Sig mosquito cracked slide.....shocker.

Well, my beloved mosquito failed. I bought it new back when they first came out. A full case of blaser and a couple buckets of golden bullets at least went through it. Almost no hot ammo though, Maybe a mag or two of mini mags. I've bought more since then but all have been unreliable used guns. So it's entirely possible that the only reliable mosquito has finally failed. 20190427_175943.jpg
 
Yeah. I actually have a RG model 66 too And I know sig abandoned the mosquito too. Gssg firefly is the latter model. I liked it though. Very accurate. And it lasted pretty decent. I believe its the only one of its kind that functioned well enough to ever wear out.
 
I have Ruger, Smith, (both in revolvers and auto) beretta (21a and Neos), colt, high standard....etc. But I liked that mosquito too. More comfortable than all those and pretty accurate. Not as accurate as many listed but pretty darn good. Also it was light and mimicked my 226 and 220 guns. I knew it was a sorry gun though. I had seen many fail but never like that. It actually has a lifetime warranty from sig. I'll see what they say. I'm certainly not surprised or losing sleep over it though. I have a couple of them I've bought that were Pretty much single shot....I can swap for a different slide.

Certainly not arguing the quality point though. They are easily the sorriest quality guns I own. Other than a clerke I cant think of another gun that's so reliably bad

I own a Mosquito; the slide is certainly zinc or Zamak, not regular steel. I have not shot it much but it has been reliable. I like it because it mimics the form of larger 9mm. pistols in form & function.
But in terms of quality, my Browning Buckmark, Ruger Mk III and IV, and Smith & Wesson are much better quality wise.

Sorry to see your gun died.
 
To be honest, I'm not surprised. I have one Mosquito and it's just been a disappointment in every sense.
 
When I bought my daughter her first gun I told her she could have any .22 pistol in the display case. I got a little nervous when she said she really liked the SIG Mosquito but she ended up liking the Beretta Neos a lot more so that's what she went with.
 
I bought a stainless 4 inch neos when they first came out. I still havent sent it back for the recall. It's certainly a better gun but I never shoot it. Odd grip and ergos. No doubt in my mind it's a good gun though.
 
Now it's time to get a S&W M&P22 or compact! I have the full size and it's been surprisingly reliable for 7 years now. Not the most accurate .22 pistol, but good enough for a cheap trainer. Dawson sights are a recommended upgrade. The stock ones suck, especially the rear.

Or that TX22 that you've been wanting (or will find yourself wanting after you look into it). The slide of this 16+1 .22lr pistol is 7075 aluminum.
 
I did contact sig on saturday. They were closed for the weekend. I'll update later when I hear from them. I won't replace that one necessarily with another model. I have plenty of 22 rifles and pistols and with the abundance of cheap 40 and 45s I'm seeing I don't think another 22 is imminent. That said, it wouldn't be the first time I bought another new gun on a whim. And I have saw that TX. It does look interesting. I just hadnt seen a mosquito/ firefly break in that manner

I hate it when aluminum gives out. Might I suggest that you upgrade to the steel of Buckmark or Ruger.

How about an all steel .22 that's compact, built right, and will last forever? What you need is a Beretta Model 70S! Super reliable, durable, and with a great single action trigger capable of some mighty decent accuracy! Did I mention that it's fun to shoot too? Great little.22!

Ten or so years ago the Mosquito was our most problematic gun sold, at least here. A good percentage went back for failure to feed, failure to extract, failure to fire. Sig 'fixed" them all at no cost but sales dropped to nil. We try not to take them in on trade as they languish in the case forever. Lots better stuff out there.
I liked the feel but stuck to my Rugers and old Colt Sport Woodsman, which is accelerating in value so fast I'm almost afraid to take it out.

It’s Zamak/zinc not aluminum.


The Walther PPQ .22 has an aluminum slide. Mines been flawless, suppressed and I suppressed.
 
The are a couple of slides for sale on eBay. Not sure the price is worth it for you though

Also looked on YouTube about repairing Zinc. There are a couple of videos on repairing it
 
Well sig contacted me. Said any gun over a year old is 55 dollars round trip shipping even if a gun has a lifetime warranty. I've never had to pay shipping before with any other company. I like my old 226 and 220 guns and I'm ok with my 320s, but if their policy is truly that bad I think ill stick to buying old west German guns and continue using Glock, HK, Beretta, Smith and FN for my newer stuff. Not complaining about the mosquito though. It was a fun little gun but its not worth 55 bucks to me though. Not knowing how crappy they are built. Lol
No worries though. No big loss
 
I believe it has been listed on the IL group of guns dealers can no longer sell, along with HiPoint, Walther PPK/S alloy, Heritage, and some classics such as the old Colt Scout. Melting point crap.
 
I had a similar experience with Steiner binoculars. They charged me $65 to repair an expensive binocular with a lifetime warranty. They had me send in the unit and kept it 4 months and I don't think I would have heard from them again, but I called and they told me they would replace the unit with another model but I needed to give them the $65. I was upset, but for $65 I would have a new set of binoculars. So I sent them the money and I got back a new set of binoculars, that I then sold for $400, and I don't buy Steiner's anymore. I think you otta consider getting it fixed, most likely they will just put a new cheap zinc slide on it, but in any case it will be worth more than $50 if you want to move it on.
