I just purchased a 22 LR conversion kit for the SIG P220.

I mounted it on my standard P220 frame. It went on very easily. The kit would not mount onto my P220 Carry. When I locked the slide back, I could not push the takedown lever up into the closed position.

The 22 caliber slide looks great. The lines are straight and the fit is very good (as good as the 45 caliber slide). There is a tiny bit of play. The barrel fits inside the slide without movement.

Finish is smooth and without mill marks

Top is rounded and smooth. The rear sight is adjustable.

SIG recommends lots of lube. The kit should be cleaned and relubricated every 200 rounds.

I purchased CCI Mini-Mags, Winchester Super X and Aguila SuperExtra 40 grain ammuntion. I also have PMC Zapper and Remington Golden Bullets available. I plan upon testing at least 50 rounds of each during my next range trip.

Rounds 1-200

Today I fired the first two hundred rounds through the conversion unit.

It did exceptionally well for a conversion kit. High quality ammo is a must.

I fired 50 CCI Minimags with no problems. I shot slowly, rapidly and everything in between. I practiced my double taps, failure drills, and bursts. I did double action only strings and pushed my speed. No failures with Minimags. Aguila SuperExtra had the same results. However, two out of 100 Remington Golden Bullets failed to ignite. Inspection of the rim showed a full strike, so the problem was the cheap ammo. This was not unexpected and is consistent with performance when shot from my Ruger MK III and Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit for Glock.

If you want reliable ignition, stick with the good stuff!

SIG recommends that the gun be well lubricated. I gobbed MilTech-1 on the rails. The rails already had a light coating of Wilson's Lithium grease. There were no jams and the gun could have continued past 200 rounds. I took the gun home and cleaned it.

Crud everywhere!

I found the SIG P220 22 LR conversion kit to be a great tool. The recoil impulse is light, yet useful. It has a similar feel to the 45 ACP slide. Accuracy was pretty good, though I'm not patient enough to get small groups. Reliability is more important to me and this kit turned out to be very reliable. I'll stick with the Minimags; SIG includes a coupon for $10 off four 100 round boxes.

Same problem

I had the same problem with my takedown lever as well. Try "canting" it down a little bit at the muzzle while turning the takedown lever. This works every time for me. It's almost as if Sig didn't leave enough clearance room. The flange at the base of the guiderod is catching. I may end up shaving a VERY small ammt. of this off to see if it works.

Good luck!

Nice pic's! Great review. Thinking of one for my P226.

All of my rimfires, except my CZ bolt guns, have trouble igniting bulk Remington ammo.

Mini Mags is where it's at.

I have shot another 300 rounds of CCI Minimags through the kit. There have been ZERO failures with this ammunition.
