So close but yet soooooooo far.

My P228 came in today but I was put on a delay. It happens one out of every 5 times. Good think my dealer is only down the street.

It always kills me that I have CHP and have passed the same check numerous times but they hold me up.

Pics of a Zurich P228 not dial up friendly

Well after a short wait I have picked up a Grade 1 P228 from my dealer. I picked this one from Dan's Ammo.

It looks really nice. The gun is in great condition inside and out. Looks like it was shot some but not abused. The rifling is crisp and there is a smile on the barrel as expected.

There is a small mark on the back of the frame and there is some small wear on the front of the slide. It is very minor. The rails show some wear but nothing that concerns me. There are no gouges just some slight finish wear. Overall I am very happy.

Dan hooked me up with 3 mags. The last one has an unusual base plate but I am not complaining.

Also these pics were all taken prior to me cleaning the firearm. The thing was pretty clean inside and out. There was some dust in the lanyard loop in the grips and the screws were a bit buggered but I have replaced them already. :)

Just picked up a VG condition p228 from Topgunsupply via my local FFL.

Rather heavy slide wear on top and sides, and a decent sized nick on the right hand bottom of the slide (frankly, a bit more wear and tear than I woulda expected for VG condition. Night sights are dead (as expected, and fine since I wanted to replace with contrast sights). Very little blue left on barrel, looks like it was shot a fair amount - or if not shot then the Swiss officer was obsessive compulsive about racking the slide. Springs look great at first glance.

Honestly, I was a bit bummed when I opened the box at my FFL. He saw a few of these come in during the week and we chatted a bit. He asked whether this was good or fair grade. I said very good - he just winced. That kinda said it all. Feeling like Charlie Brown during the Halloween Special. "I got another rock..."

Will try to post pics later

If I was not happy with the condition of the gun I purchased I would have not transferred the gun. I would have called TGS who is a great dealer and confirmed what I had purchased and discussed it.

It is a pain in the butt, however it will keep you from having a gun you are not happy with.

Take some pics send them to TGS and talk with them.

Frankly it did not occur to me to give them a call, since TGS is out of stock on the very good grades, leaving me with pretty limited options....

Wojownik,

If you want to return the gun for a full refund, please let me know. I personally inspected every one of these guns. I did not see a single barrel with most of the bluing gone. Very few showed signs of being fired much at all. The very good examples had only minor finish wear. So if I missed this one, I apologize. Please send it back for a refund. We do not want you to have a gun you are not pleased with.

I'm definitely interested in replacing the P228 that I sold off like a d@mn fool two years ago - skeeter_08

Tom that is stellar customer service. This is why I put this info on this board because I know that both TGS and Dan's Ammo will stand behind their products and that they know how to treat the customer.

I hope that this works out to the satisfaction of both parties.

My gun was from TGS, and was in much better condition than I expected it to be in (purchased one in "fair" condition). Came in just a few days... Everyone that I had contact with was very helpful. A+ service. Dan contacted me after I'd purchased one from TGS already, but was still very helpful.

Pic is kinda large for the forum. My P6 is in the front, P228 in the middle, and my friend's P226 that he got in the mail a day after mine. His is DAO, if anyone noticed the missing decocker.

Tom - Thank you for the offer to return the p228 (very high road), but I would prefer to keep the pistol than have none.

Regarding the barrel wear - I could have been more precise in my description. The chamber shows more heavy wear (under 50% blueing remaining), while the barrel itself has decent blueing with the usual half moon and tracks. This wasn't a big deal to me - I'd expect any police trade in to have some use. Just odd how the chamber had the blue worn, but the barrel not.

I'll have to update what I said about the ding in the slide. It turns out that those were caused after the pistol was in the FFL's possession - it apparently was dropped, but the FFL owner (not the clerk that I spoke to at the store that winced) has since offered to "make it right". That clerk apparently was the one who dropped the pistol. The slide wear is OK - that ding in the slide (which as it turned out had nothing to do with TGS) was what set me off.

The grips and screws look to be brand new, as does the recoil spring and guide rod.

I have owned a P228 for several years. I purchased one of the last 3 left in a local gunshop after they quit making them for the general public. I am glad I did as it is a real keeper. I never have considered selling it, they have such a wonderful name for reliability and longevity. When i took my concealed carry class last year I used it for the shooting segment of the class. The instructor's, both law enforcement officers, commented that the P228 was one of the most reliable pieces ever made for service.

There are more P228's and Montage Suisse P225's inbound. Both are Zurich Police turn-ins. Hopefully they will be available early next week.
