Greetings,
Hoping my fellow THRians can help me out with a few things: I recommended a Sig P239 to my father when he inquired about buying a smaller 9mm. He loves the gun but has mentioned he wishes their was a little more to "grip". When i recommended it, I thought it came with an extended mag, with the little pinky rest that you often see on these types of guns. I don't like shooting my p238 without it, so I see where he's coming from.

I emailed Sig, they said it's discontinued talk to MegCar, talked to MegCar, they told me to talk to Sig because they have the rights or something to that effect- yada, yada, yada, and now I'm back at square one.

I'd really like to surprise him with a few, so, can anyone point me to somewhere that I can get a couple (or one)?
-And-
Were their problems with the design that caused the termination of this mag? I'm talking about the mag that holds 10 and has an extension, he has the mag that holds 8. Thanks very much. PH

Well, they had about every one but the one I need. Thanks for trying though.

Yahhhh! That's the one! First time Ive seen one in the flesh. Would you consider selling me one of those?

Thanks Main, I'll keep lookin around. I do have some reloading components that may be of interest. PM sent.

Main,
Buying one on ebay now. There's one for 129$:what::what::barf:

and one for 40$. Needless to say Im trying for that one. Its probably broke LOL.

No, not really. Maybe he's got a danglin pinky or something, whatever that is.
Actually, I dunno, maybe they are large. It feels ok when I shoot it, but a little extra pinky turf never hurts I guess.

The OP said;

I guess I'm kinda confused. He was looking for a smaller 9mm with a really long grip? I'm glad he discovered the 239 but the logic here seems a bit askew.

Hey, "skew" you!

Just kidding.

He had a big Smith, 6906 maybe? And wanted something smaller. But not to small I guess.

Sorry, I just want to make sure some more people get a chance to see this. Really would like to find my dad one.

Keep using Google there are some out there.
I use mine for competition BUG stages---LIKE.
If he doesn't have the SRT KIT get him one and install it for him. He WILL like that. I think it was about $45 .

I have my P239 right here next to me. The standard mags that came with it (Mec-Gar, I think) already have a pinky extension built in. So I'm confused why an even longer one is needed. My hands are not small, but they're not huge either.

Instead of going for some additional and expensive magazines, I can highly recommend getting the Hogue Grip for it. That makes the feel of the grip much better on a P239.

They're also available at amazon.com for a lower price.

Hmm. Thanks Mal. That might be just what the Dr ordered. Im talking about the 10 rd mags, not the 8s, if that matters. And it was meg car who made the 10 capacity mag, but they no longer come with it.

Is that like a screw on grip panel, not just one of the slide on ones?

Talking about it feeling ok...I dont really know, it's not mine, people are kind of weird about their guns and want the perfect length I guess. He'll probably end up with a different gun because I think what's happening is that it just doesn't feel perfect in his hand like I'd want my carry piece to.

yes, it's a wrap-around grip that has a single screw on each side.

and if he's looking for a Sig that just 'feels right', do him a favor and put a P225 or P6 in his hand. I've yet to find someone that didn't think it was the perfect fit. Still only holds 8 rounds though :(

I second that suggestion. The P225 is about the most natural handgun grip i've held. Granted it's a little bigger and heavier for carry compared to the offerings out there today, but for range use and designed 40 years ago it's still relevant. I've got 4 P6's myself, but just couldn't warm up to the P239 grip.

Keep in mind the surplus P6 have a heavier DA pull than the civilian P225, and pre '89 P6 don't feed jhp well.

Wow, thanks very much, I will check those out. And Im very glad you gave me some places to continue my search. Lost the auction on ebay:(

I love my 239, but it does not feel as good in the had as other guns might. It just doesn't fill it like a CZ PCR or some other higher-cap, fatter grip weapons. It shoots like a boss and conceals nicely, but it's a grip that has to grow on you. YMMV
