SIG P938...Who Owns and Carries One and How Do You Like It??

Hey all,

For some reason this gem slipped under my radar and I didn't notice it's presence. I guess I just thought it was a .380 like the P238. Glad I decided to stop and take a look at them. Now I want one.

I'd like to hear what you guys that own, carry and shoot these little Sigs think about them. Are there other semis that you think are close to the 938 and that you could easily switch to carrying them? What are the things that you DISLIKE about them?

Lastly, tell what version you have and if you have pics of it both in and out of your carry rig, how about favoring us with some pictures of it?

Anything else you want to add, feel free.

I have one and carry it a lot. Seems to be a wonderful little gun. I've shot mine several hundred rounds and have had ZERO malfunctions past the first 50 rounds. The first 50 were fired right out of the box with no cleaning, etc and with factory lube(?). Cleaned and lubed it-perfect ever since.

Accuracy is WAY good. It is quite comfortable to shoot especially with the longer magazine but also ok with the shorter one. I did clip the very lower tip of the plastic trigger since it was a little sharp pointed and dug into my trigger finger when firing at the range.

I like the fact that the thumb safety can be left on while running the slide. The ambi safety is ok by me but I don't use the off side. The night sights are very visible and the sight picture is very good in the daylight due to the shape of the sights.

In short, I love the little thing!

You need better radar. Seriously though, you'll find that its one of the best all-around pistols ever. I carry mine daily. Have for over a year now. Its accurate, reliable, not painful to shoot (get the black rubber grips). and it disappears while carrying it. And its not a bad looking little gun either, not that that matters much.

Go buy one. You'll like it.

My wife and I rented one a month ago and she liked it so much I bought two at an auction: a Rosewood grip and an Equinox.

The Equinox has a beautiful finish on the slide, but she hasn't decided which one she likes better.

The two guns have very different triggers. I had heard this before and it turned out to be true. The quality control on these little pistols doesn't seem to be as tight as other Sigs I have owned. Do some research on when the 938 first came out and you'll see how many people had FTE and FTF issues.

One trigger has a little more slack and feels looser while the other trigger is tight but feels very heavy. Both have overall very heavy trigger pulls compared to any other single action pistol I've tried, which you may or may not like.

Being a 1911 guy I'm not a fan of the safety on the 938. It's just too small and and awkward for me to enjoy. It is workable though so it's not a deal breaker.

I'm being overly critical because I want you to see both sides. For what it's worth I'm considering keeping both the 938s and carrying one myself (I would choose the Equinox because it's gorgeous) on hot days.

I had heard early reports about folks disliking the recoil, but the above posts are changing my mind I have P238 SAS that I carry often and the 938 makes me worry i will cast aside the 238 if I get one.

I have one, and love it. I've got the "Extreme" version, around 500 rounds through it and it's been flawless. Not one malfunction of any type. Picked up a few more of the 7-round extended mags from Top Gun Supply (shameless plug, ordered on a Monday morning, in the mailbox Wednesday afternoon).

I currently pack it fairly regularly in a Kramer Belt Scabbard (a great pancake OWB in horsehide). Going with a teensy gun seems to be helping my back out some, too ... But with 8 rounds of hot-steppin' JHPs, I don't feel under-gunned at all.

Recoil not even a factor. Accuracy is good, not great, but as I shoot this thing more, I'm getting better with it. My 938 has a bit heavier trigger than the superb trigger on the wife's 238 Extreme, but it's getting better.

I've never been a fan of little-bitty semi-autos, but I love the 938. Heck, I even love the 238, and I have abhorred the .380 round for years ... This is just a terrific platform.

I bought a gently used Nightmare a month ago and have been very pleased with it so far. It came with three magazines. I have about three hundred rounds through it so far with zero malfunctions. Recoil is not a problem and accuracy is good for such a small handgun.I did smooth the edges of the trigger with a dremel tool. Very sharp! It is loaded with Hornady 124 XTP's. I am currently carrying it AIWB in a Remora holster but I have found that all my holsters for compact 1911's will work which gives me several more to choose from.

Great guns. Mine was very accurate and reliable but offloaded since muscle memory different than what I'm issued.

Great little pistol. It's my go-to for pocket carry. Much more comfortable to shoot with the 7-round magazines, but a bit easier to conceal with the 6-rounders. I carry mine in a Remora holster pocket carry with cargo shorts or IWB with athletic shorts.

Love mine. Much more accurate at distance than I expected and fits well in my smaller hands. No problems with the action. it does fling spent cartridges into the next county

I love mine. About 500 rounds through it and no problems. Only auto I have found that I would trust to replace my beloved old J frame revolver.

Personally I wish they had just made the thing with a grip frame the proper length for the 7rd mag. The 6rd is such a pain to use. I always thought the 7rd mag is wierd with the grip filler on it. I also don't see where, in my useage anyway, the smaller grip would be of significant help in concealment. That said, I have tested the 6rd mag, and it works fine.

I honestly don't know what version mine is. Never seen another one like it, and it doesn't show up on Sig's site. Matte black with plastic & rubber grip panels in a double diamond pattern. No FCS.

I love mine, it is a perfect size for concealed carry and yet handles the 9 mm like it was a .32. Seriously recoil is more manageable than my P238's and they are easy shooters in their own right. I believe the G10 grips and extended mag greatly add to control the recoil.

I really like my 938 extreme. Only issue I've had is several FTE's, but only with White Box ammo. Functions perfectly with every other ammo I've tried. Shoots well, especially for a pocket gun.

My wife has an equinox with a great trigger (got to try a few). However, she can't shoot it nearly as well as the P238. That said, neither of us wants to give the pistol up.

I understand, I wanted to love it for many of the above stated reasons; however it had FTE on too many occasions, and I shoot my Shield much more accurately and faster.

I sent mine back twice with no satisfaction. FTE 's are too big a problem to ignore, even if 1 in 100. I had over 500 rounds in mine before I started sending it back. That's with multiple types of ammo that FTE.

The Shield isn't much larger, and I'm used to it in my pocket now.

There were early "teething" problems but the new ones now seem to be reliable; at least mine is.

It's 9mm recoil is much softer than the larger .380 blowbacks such as the Walther and the Sig 230 & 232. Mine has the wooden grips which I prefer for pocket carry yet the recoil is very tolerable.

Since it is for pocket defensive purposes I prefer the somewhat "heavy" trigger pull.

I will keep this fine little "pocket rocket" for a long time.

I have the Blackwood version. I use it as a pocket carry piece, as I frequently need to wear my shirt tucked in at work, etc. I bought an inexpensive pocket holster, and need to replace it as the leather has bent enough to where the gun prints as if I'm not using the holster, so I'd recommend buying a quality holster the first time.

I've had no malfunctions, and it's very accurate for a gun with a 3 inch barrel. The only issue I had was the sharpness of the corners of the trigger. They were blistering my finger, and when I did an internet search I found this was a fairly common problem. I filed the corners slightly with a nail file just enough to soften them (you can't tell they were filed by looking at it).

I use Buffalo Bore +P+ ammo in my other 9's, but from what i was able to find out can not use them in the 938. Do your own research, but I believe +P is the max.

Recoil is very manageable. Being a small 16 oz gun, it's obviously sharper than my other 9's, but it shouldn't be an issue for you.

It has a great balance between having the stopping power of a 9, while being small enough to use as a pocket gun.

I wish I would read your thread earlier. Just so I recall my shopping experience. We were at what seemed like an endless supply of every handgun imaginable. I wanted something very much like the p398 but had no idea which one I wanted. I was out-of-state with my wife. So when you are in a town of 35,000 there is just not much to see or hold. Being able to hold ALL of them was awesome! The biggest problem was how to adorn it to be mine. I shoot +P to be used to it and it knocks down the silhouettes set for my .45's. Never a problem. Just love this gun. PS, don't let anyone tell you that you can get more or the same for less $$$. Just not true.
