sig sauer p226 question

It certainly does not jive with the fact that SIG was stating that users with 40,000 rounds may not experience the need for a new main spring yet. Last I checked 40,000 was 10,000 more than the 30,000 rounds that you site.

Being a member and reader of the SIG forum for years I have read reports of at least a couple hundred members with very high round count alloy frame SIGs - many who are competitve shooters. And more to the point I have heard of "maybe" a single frame failure in a modern SIG and that could have been neglect or overpowered loads. With over 65,000 engaged members of the SIG forum (many who joined to discuss problems with their SIGS) that is pretty amazing as IF there was a problem with early frame failures in SIGs it would be widely discussed (they discuss every other little problem) instead of virtually never discussed as a problem or even remotely considered to be a problem with alloy frame SIGs that are well maintained. I do remeber on occasion when members did discuss the frame life of an alloy SIG and the forum members that were SIG armorers saying to expect at LEAST 60,000 round life on an alloy frame SIG that was well maintained which the SIG forum has discussions on proper maintenance all the time.

It certainly looks as if we have to agree to disagree.

Anyone who is concerned with the frame life of an alloy frame SIG should do their own research and that could include posting such a question on the SIG forum where it is almost guaranteed that they will get educated and informative replies from forum member SIG armorers themselves with a ton of experience and most likely Bruce Gray himself rather that 2 members debating in this thread.

30,000 through a single 9mm @ $200 a case of 1000 factory=$6000
Really!
How many shooters are going to do that with one handgun?

I have a few handguns that have fired that many rounds & it has taken thirty years of owning them to get there.

You get thirty years of use out of ANYTHING consider it a bargain.

You get two years of HARD USE out of an $800 handgun, i.e. 15,000 rounds a year, consider it a bargain, you spent more on ammo than you did the gun and you spent less on the gun and ammo than I did electricity and internet/cable TV for two years.

Seriously! Why do people get into these arguement/discussions other than to argue a stupid point?:banghead:

@ cgp

Welcome to the forum .. I think you'll like it here.

We don't often squabble like this :D

Beautiful gun pictures .. I own that gun ... nice.

Thanks DonDavis. I probably need to make a formal introduction but I think I'm gonna like it here.

@ onmilo. exactly. same mental masturbation goes on with guys complaining about how much 44 mag ammo it takes to shoot loose your S&W 29. if you can afford to shoot enough ammo to ruin your gun you can afford a new gun. also, you should be inspecting your gun to look for signs of stress and send it in for service before it cracks. that said my heavy range use guns typically are steel framed ( sig, 1911, revolver etc)

of course i dont want to learn of a crack or have my kids find a crack down the road when getting a new gun may be a physical or legal impossibility

I went to the gun show today and it didn't turn up any good used P226's. What I did see was a P226 equinox(exscuse the spelling guys, if it isn't correct) to bad I didnt have the cash on me to make the purchase then and there. The show is coming back in October, and I'm going to work some over time and buy that puppy. It was beautifull. With that look coupled with how the 226 felt that I rented a few days back....I have to have it. I'll be nose to the grind until October, but it will be worth it.
Thanks for all the feed back and advice guys, been a huge help.

Good deal. :D October will be here in no time! You will really like that P226 Equinox. Please post back when you get it to show us some pictures!!

Also no real advantage in buying new versus used (just check the rails for wear/burrs).

Whether it means anything to an individual buyer or not as to whether it's worth the not insubstantial difference in money between used and new prices, should you decide to purchase used, you will forfeit SIG's lifetime warranty.

thats why i have 6 1911s about 15 j, k and n frame smiths and 2 of each sigs except the 228 an im actively looking for a back up 228 and im negotiating for my 4th M1A. and 3rd 870...

i spose i could trade it all off and buy about a few dozen gloks but that would be boring. :)

only ones i cant easily get dupes of is the guns i have inherited from my grandfathers and great grandfathers.
