Has anyone had experience buying, installing and using a Sig short trigger? I have medium sized hands and I am wondering what sort of impact it has on how a 226 handles.

Thanks!

Easy to install if you know the instructions. AGI has a DVD, and on Sigforum, a member or two may be able to e-mail them to you if interested.

It will give your finger a better purchase on the trigger. It does not affect pull weight or length.

+1 ^^^^^
The Law beat me to it.
Top Gun Supply is the place to get alot of your Sig needs. Chris Orndorff's DVD is second to none. It'll teach you how to completely take your Sig apart down to the last screw. The short trigger is very easy to install following the instructions on the DVD. The AGI DVD is OK, but not as good as Chris'

Another thumbs up for Top Gun Supply.

The short trigger is easy to install. You need screw drivers for the grip screws and trigger pivot pin (to push it out and align when installing). Needle nose pliers might help with the springs, but are not necessary. SIG Armorer's manuals are available on-line at http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/

Thanks for the info! Does the short trigger have a big impact on how the 226 feels and handles?

I have it on a 229 and it is kind of a trade off for me. It does give better purchase for the double action pull, but I like the long trigger's position for single action better.
Here is the short trigger on top of the long one:

I put short triggers on all my Sigs. I wear a size 8 1/2 glove with slightly short fingers. I am an absolute promoter of the shorties. I feel they are of immense benefit to many persons with hands that are less than large. My wife (who is 5', 100 lbs) would not touch my 220 till I put the short trigger on it. Now I have to watch carefully so that it does not leave for work with her in the morning(I work 4-12).

Sounds like your wife has good taste in guns ;)

Great post and excellent pictures!

Midway USA says that the installation requires "fitting".

Are they referring to "installing", or do you need to do a bit of stoning to get things to work?

It sounds like Midway's caveat is just a CYA maneuver. I think they should drop right in.

+1 on what The Law said. It was a drop in part on mine. The trigger pivot pin goes through the frame, slide release and trigger. The trigger bar goes into the top hole of the trigger. Here's how it sits in the frame; the slide release (left) is lifted up and over some in this photo:

Hey thanks 1BLINDREF:)

I finally got to handle a SIG P229 with a short trigger in 2004; until that point, I had not liked the P229, in spite of the grip feeling very good in my hands. (I had carried a P220 as a duty pistol and on my own time for several years in the early 1990's.) With a regular factory trigger, a P229 or P226 would perform poorly for me, as the trigger face was too far forward, causing the DA first shot to go wild much of the time, as I struggled to reach far enough, and then roll my finger across the squared-off trigger face during the stroke. The short trigger made a HUGE difference, in the positive direction, and I now consider the P229 my favorite autoloading pistol, and am grateful it is on my employing agency's "approved" list for duty pistols. BTW, I am not slighting the P226 at all; until just a few months ago, it was not on the "approved" list, so I have not paid much attention, though I am now considering trying one of them, too, when funds allow.
