Thanks for your many helpful responses to my questions concerning HK handguns.

After months of work, I'm actually starting to see some marked improvement in my handgun skills. (Interestingly, what has helped the most has been regular practice in my backyard with a Daisy Avanti 747 target air pistol) I have been shooting my 226 and 220ST. Now I'm considering adding a more specialized target oriented gun to my collection. In particular, I am considering the 220 or 226 Sport with the long barrel and compensator and the HK Elite. Any thoughts regarding a choice between these models?

Thanks Again,

RFC

Buy a good revolver. SW 686.

Locked-breech selfloaders are not the best idea for bullseye shooting. No matter what their manufacturers claim.

If you are more interested in another automatic rather than true target shooting, then get whatever auto floats your boat. But, if it's true target shooting you're looking for, get a true target gun. That can mean an automatic, but generally speaking, a revolver is the ticket here.

I've had great results (accurcy wise) w/ my USP Expert & the added sight radius & barrel length implies a pistol more accurate that you need...However accuracy is really influenced by the user regardless of the firearm ;)

Is there a must for having one of those chamberings that those two are available in? if you really want a "target" pistol, look into one of the upper level .32's or .32's by Pardini, Morini, or go a step lower with a Benelli. All are very respected target gun manufacturers.

I owned an H&K Elite in 9mm. I also own a Sig P226/9mm.
I found the Elite to be extremely accurate from the bench even with cheap ammo. I did shoot some great offhand groups with it, but when I tried to speed up at all, my shooting went way downhill. This was strictly an ergonomic issue, and may not effect you.
My P226 has always been accurate at any speed. I would think the sport model with the S/S frame would be just awesome, and you are already 'dialed in' to the frame shape and basic trigger pull.
