-=Erhardt SiGARMS Director of Marketing=-
On behalf of SIGARMS I'd like to say thank you for all your kind comments and for being loyal customers of the SIGARMS brands. I'd also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name if Paul Erhardt and I am the new Director of Marketing for SIGARMS.

Yes, it's no joke, I am actually writing to you from inside the corporate office in Exeter, NH, where they make and sell what you and I know to be the finest firearms in the world.

Here is the question.

-=Screaming .357G =-
Well let me first say WELCOME to the board.
And thanks for making the 226ST.357 (my favorite).

BTW a sig 1911 with a light rail similar to the kimber TLE/RL II would be sooooooooo nice hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

And here is where the SiGARMS Director of Marketing takes a poke a Kimber!!:what:

Like A Kimber?

We'd love to make something like a Kimber but we have a strict policy of making things BETTER. Hope you don't mind - and that my friends at Kimber (yes I know those guys too) don't hunt me down at SHOT Show. - PAUL

Ouch!
Kind of lame to take a poke like that.
To imply that Kimber is inferior?
I love my Sig, don't get me wrong, but what a way to make an introduction to a forum as the SiGARMS Director of Marketing.

It's not a poke at Kimber. He isn't saying the Kimbers are bad. He's just saying Sig's policy is to look at the next guy, and improve upon it.

What's the problem???

Sigs ARE better than Kimbers-----don't own either---so don't have a dog in this fight.

Sigs don't seems to fit me well---so don't own one.

Kimbers---how to say this----just never struck me as a quality weapon----sure I've looked all the models over and tried to like them because of all the glowing reports---but will never drop the bucks down on one cause there is just something there that seems cheap to me----just my opinion.

Don't see that as an insult to Kimber, just pride in SIG.

(Don't own either, would sooner get one of Kimber's 1911s than Sig's P2** series, though that is more a function of design preferance than a quality observation.)

1. Taking a poke at someone isn't an insult. He stated he has friends over there, and I looked at it as friendly rivalry.

2. He's on sigforum.com so what did you expect "Kimbers rule"

3. More importantly, he's the DIRECTOR OF MARKETING FOR SIGARMS. If he didn't say SIGARMS did it better, we'd think he was nuts or incompetent.

Well, if you want to look at it from a slightly different angle, maybe he's admitting, without coming right out and saying it, that they can't make something better than Kimber, so they're not going to try.

You must not know many marketing people. That is pretty darn mild. :D

It sounded to me like they don't like to compete if they don't KNOW it's a better product which is why they don't have anything to fill that nitche. When they do it better, if there is enough market, then they might put it out.

I think he was being downright friendly for a marketing guy. When my Dad was in marketing at Cerner he asked his VP what the differance between marketing and lying was and her response was "There's a difference?" :scrutiny:

The guy sounded pretty good natured to me. I sort of like the fact that the guy is loyal. I like loyalty even when it works against me.

Fair game. Certainly, Sig has a much better rep for reliability and not having large random components break in two than Kimber does.

I think he made 2 good points
1) Sig tries to make the best weapon system possible
2) Sig will not make a 1911 because Kimber makes it better than anyone else.

For that I agree when in the 1911 market, Kimber beats Colt, Springfield and Smith. Sure there are custom makers like STI and others, but from a sheer volume/pricing point Kimber is the most bang for the buck.

I don't know. Maby it was in good nature, but it looks like a jab a Kimber to me.

2) Sig will not make a 1911 because Kimber makes it better than anyone else.

As far as Sig not making a 1911, I think that is about to change

Scuttlebut is that the new release in AZ will be a Sig 1911
*yawn*
I'm hoping that is just misinformation.
How boring would ANOTHER 1911 be?
Now release a new 10mm and sign me up!

A SIG 1911 in various sized frames for .45ACP would ROCK! I'd have to buy one. I love SIGs and 1911's!

It was pure jest posted on the Sigforum, where some of the most loyal Sigophiles converse. Get over it.

And yes, Sigs ARE better than Kimbers. ;) :p

RTFM-
hey if SIG makes a 1911 I will look it over, I have several SIG ponys in my stable :) But at the moment my Kimber is the king in my 1911 section, and I still want a TLE.

I too am wanting a SIG 10mm, heck every time the poll comes up on the SIGForum I keep voting yes I want one. Is this new release possibly their new K-trigger system? It is supposed to go up against Glock, who knows

My impression was that that wasn't a poke at Kimber, he was just trying to say that SiG doesn't copy, they improve. He probably meant "SIG wouldn't make the same thing as anyone else, we would improve on it first".

That message could only be a "poke" if you believe that no one could possibly improve on Kimber and the mere suggestion is offensive.:what:

But thats just my take on it, YMMV.
