Looking for recommendations for a target scope to go on a Anschutz 1710 .22 rifle for silhouette shooting. I was looking at a Leupold 16 x 40 or the 6-18X40MM AO VXII?

Any comments are appreciated.

I've used a 6x20 Leupold that was boosted to 18x40, with a target dot installed by Premier. Very good scope for small bore sillouhette. It was placed on an Anschutz 54 in conjunction with a level at the end of the barrel. If the bubble was level, and the dot on the steel, the target was toast.

The downside- the high magnification really showed how much you move and how heavy you breathe. Mirage could be a bear as well.

The upside- those tiny chickens looked huge in the scope, and the turkeys and rams were pretty good size too. The boosting gave more target to hold on.

Like Fed168, I use a 6.5-20 with a dot. Mine isnt boosted.

I tried higher powder but shot an occasional animal in the wrong order. That a double whammy, both targets are lost.

I like to be able to see the stand from the previous animal and the next animal.

If you are shooting nothing but 40x40s, boost the power.
