Since the demise of the AWB how many have switched from a 1911 to a high cap

Before (I think), during and after, I had/carried a PO P14 (which is a wide-body 1911 in .45acp). Therefore, I didn't have to change!

Nahhh,

I have nothing against 'em, of course, and I guess they are great for the average cop who ain't that good with a handgun anyway . . . and the gang banger surely needs more shots than a pistol can hold if they are gonna shoot 'em sideways but . . .

I see no need, personally, to tote a big, fat-tazzz bottom-feeder with so-so accuracy and a spongy, crunchy trigger. My seven-shot Kimber Ultra CDP and my six-shot S&W revolvers do just fine, thank you!

What I am against, is a bunch of wussy politicians and their handlers who don't know how to operate a handgun, much less have a mastery of them, making laws to deny honest folks a chance to enjoy their hobby and to protect themselves.

I'm with S&WFan. My Kimber is more than capable of anything it is called upon to do. Combine that with a couple spare mags and I'm good to go.

I had originally planned on getting a 1911 when I came of age but then the ban expired and as I hoped they didn't renew it so I opted for an XD45. I wanted something closer to the standard 1911 platform like the para 14-45 but that was a bit out of my price range and I liked the looks and durability of the XD. I think its the best polymer pistol around for the money.

I always bought into the "more is better" mindset so carried a Glock with 13+1 for many years. My latest thinking however is to carry the pistol the fits, points and shoots the best to ME. That is a Sig Revolution SA .45 with 7+1. So the AWB thing wasn't a factor for me.

Actually, I've moved away from high caps and am now carrying single stacks. I guess my opinion is, if you can carry more than 10rds in the grip of your pistol, it's time to get a larger caliber. ;)

My only semiauto has eight round magazines (Colt Gov't Model). My other handguns? Three six-shooters and one five-shooter.

I dunno. Capacity in a handgun doesn't worry me. In most real-world encounters, if you're being attacked, you'll run out of time before you run out of ammunition. If there's too many of them and just one of you, it doesn't matter how many shots you've got on tap; you can only shoot in one direction at once. A man with a belt-fed would loose to a squad with bolt-action rifles.

Other than the fact that there is no such thing as a Hi cap gun. The gun holds the about of rounds it was designed too. In my opinion the only thing that can be called a hi cap is a mag bigger than the gun was designed for. Ie putting a 30 round stick in your Glock 26. Yes it will fit but the factory didn't design around that 30 rounder. </end rant>

Why would you want to lower your standards The 1911 was putting people in ground long befor Glock or any of the other so called Hi cap pistols.

There is something to be said for many rounds down range but quite a bit more to be said about shot placement. I don't feel the need for a fat- handled pistol.

For myself I admit to carrying an HK P2K in 40. What a shooter, but I have 5 1011's and love them all.

I've never felt the need to carry a hi-cap 10+ rounds acording to the brady bill.and come to think I only own two guns that even fit the catagory my BHP and my Witness compact 10mm,while they are both fine carry guns, I seldom carry them.most of the time its a 5 shot revolver or HK p7psp.my wife has a sig226 which is hi-cap per AWB, but that decision was more because as a retired marine I didn't need to retrain her as to manuel of arms.

Hmmm...I still have 15+1 Beretta, 15+1 Glock & 7+1 and 8+1 1911s -- I guess I'm in the "I had both before, during & during the CA restrictions" :scrutiny:
The only real change I've made is the addition of my 10+1 USP 45s

I have all so-called "high cap" handguns so far.
HKP2K(13+1), P226(17+1), and G19(15+1).

I plan to buy a 1911 and a revolver one of these days, but I'll get all my hicap stuff while I can and while they are still legal. Our laws will change, these things will be capped again, and then I might get that 1911 I've been looking at.

Some have mentioned in this thread a supposed superiority in accuracy of a low cap .45. I don't get how this myth continues that 1911s are inherently more accurate than other pistols. Any modified handgun can be super accurate. A tricked out BHP, X-Five/Six, SW952, CZ97B, etc, etc are all equally as accurate as a tricked out 1911.

I love 1911s - don't get me wrong. If I had the money, I know exactly which one I would get, but I don't think they are the be all and end all of the handgun world. If someone found a way to put 20 .45cal rounds in a regular size 1911, am I to understand that you wouldn't get it b/c you only need 8? I doubt anyone would say, well these are both the same size - I think I'll go with the one that has only 8 rounds. Everyone goes with capacity when they can. That's the nature of the beast. Hopefully the next ban will be a long way off... but I'm not optimistic. Buy your hicap mags while you can!

I hate to break up the greater-than-7-rounds hate fest, but I've been carrying a Glock 23 since before the AWB sunset. I shoot it pretty accurately, it carries well, and I'm comfortable with it. I bought a Kimber while I was home on leave and I like it, but it just doesn't do it as a carry gun for me. *shrug*

"Why would you want to lower your standards The 1911 was putting people in ground long befor Glock or any of the other so called Hi cap pistols."

...and spears were putting people in the ground long before the 1911, but I don't see many of those being carried these days. Don't misunderstand me, there's nothing wrong with a 1911, but saying "it's old, so it's the best" never made sense to me. With that kind of rationale, why invent new things?

I actually went the other direction. During the ban I carried a Glock 19, and I had plenty of pre-ban 15 round mags. Now, when I carry a pistol, it is a Colt Commander with 7+1 in the gun. I like the Glock, but I LOVE the 1911. The 1911 platform just fits me better, I shoot it better, and it conceals better for ME. No, the 1911 is not the end all be all, but the fact is it works, and it works well.

My experiences mirror M1 Shooter's. My first carry gun was a Glock 19 with regular capacity mags. I then switched to a Sig 228. Somewhere in there the AWB ended, and now I either carry a P7 or a 1911, neither of which holds 10 rounds.

I shoot them more accurately than anything else because of the nice trigger pull, and they conceal better for me because they are flat (which in part is due to their single stack lower capacity.)

I still own a Sig 226 and an HK Tactical, both of which are +10 guns, but I wouldn't want to have to carry either and they are mostly for range use.
