I want to put a mount point for a single point sling on my 590. I went out and purchased a Midwest industries plate that fits between the receiver and stock. It's about a quarter inch thick and as a result the stock bolt is not long enough. I went down to the hardware store and asked the attendant for a similar bolt that was about a quarter inch longer. I got home, threw it all together and it doesn't all lock together tight enough. The stock can spin easily. I'm thinking that the bolt might be just a smidge too long. Also it seems to me that the little 'bump and indentation' at the very base of the stock is there to stop the stock from spinning. The sling adapter eliminates this feature.

Does anyone here have experience with this issue? I think my first step is to add a washer or two in the stock to 'shorten' the bolt. Then perhaps the tension along with a precision cut piece of bike inner tube may help.

What are the thoughts?

Thanks!

If a washer is all it needs to make it tight, you can just cut off a couple of threads on the bolt and have the same effect

Cut a notch in the plate for the "bump" to fit

I'd make the necessary modifications so that the bump can do the job it was designed to do. It's too bad the sling adapter plate doesn't include that feature.

I tried a plate and had issues. My solution was to simply attach para cord directly to rifle stock where it narrows by the part where you grip it. Before doing so, I folded it back on itself and tied off a loop on it for single point slings. Picked up this trick at a Scott Reitz shotgun class. It worked very well over two days.
