A man after my own heart! I too am a big fan of single stack 9mms. I have average sized hands but I like to be able to get a lot of my hand around the gun, it makes me feel like I have better control.
If you have short fingers and a small to medium hand, you owe it to yourself to try a Kahr. The K-9 is my favorite but they come in plastic frame and different bbl length and well as shorter grips. It is without question the finest single stack 9mm medium frame gun I have ever held. I can't say enough about the ergos of this work of art. It is what all other handguns are trying to be but somehow fall short.
I also have a Star BM, Star Firestar M-43, and Star B. All good handguns but they are SA and not in production anymore. The Star BM is a best buy but it may not be as reliable as a Kahr due to age. The SIG 239 and SIG 225 are well made guns also but they don't fit me as well as the Kahr.
I had a RAP 401 that is a DA/SA 9mm single stack. It was heavy for it's size but was reliable until the trigger spring broke. Being a S. African gun, there were no parts for it in this country so I got rid of it and took a big loss. If the gun is for self defense, I would suggest getting a modern in production gun so if it breaks, you can repair it or have it repaired. The older guns are often well made and good preformers at a great price but not worth the risk as a CCW. I think you are going to like the Kahr a lot. Don't be afraid of the price, they are worth every penny.
