SIS slide serrations?

Any SIS owners out there care to comment on how easy or hard it is to rack the slide on these 1911s? My friend is having reservations on whether or not to go with another model due to the possible lack of positive serrations on the slide, especially with sweaty hands or maybe a little oil on the slide. A mild case of arthritis might also be a factor. Thanks.

I'd imagine it's a non-issue.

They have some grip, which is probably good enough unless you really do have oil all over the slide flats. In that case, wrap your hand around the slide, and use the rear sight as a positive stop.

I used mine during a 4 day handgun course. Never had any trouble with the slide. The course included a lot of malfunction drills and loading and unloading. I was running that slide quite a few times.

The "SIS" serrations look pretty sweat, but they are the reason that I am reluctant to purchase the weapon. I am concerned about my ability to get a proper grip. I am trying to talk myself out of that concern. I will concede the fact that “SIS” detectives regularly find themselves in sticky situations, and clearly the gun meets their criteria. But I would not feel comfortable with the serrations as they are.

I handled one at a shop; the SIS serrations were very slippery. I feel the traditional serrations (designed by JMB) work best.

Internet opinions are worth what you pay for them and you're gonna get your money's worth from me here: I think those SIS serrations just simply look dumb on a 1911. For all I know they may work better functionally than normal serrations but they look dumb...to me.

Not even worth .02 I know but that's how I feel.

I'm a Kimber fan myself, but I do think the SIS slide serrations are an eyesore. I'd never buy one based on that by itself. I think it's kinda silly to use the acronym of any weapon and try to incorporate that into some function like the slide serrations. Just think it's kinda corny or cheesy.

Yep. Not a big fan of the raptors either for that reason. JMHO though, I'm sure some folks find them attractive. Just not for me...

I agree with highorder though, about using the hand over slide racking technique. Much more positive than slingshotting IMO.

Agreed! The other features are worthwhile, but slide serrations in the vague shape of stylized letters are ugly.

Well in defense of the SIS, I guess Kimber was looking for something that would set this series apart from the rest of their pistols. I sort of like it but I'm not in that league myself, I have a Taurus PT1911, ha, ha. Works just fine for half the price.

I tried the SIS for grip at the suggestion of the owner of the shop I go to in town. He thought that they are too slick and he's a Kimber dealer. I agreed and I'm a fan of first series Kimber pistols.
