Input needed quick. Is $500 to much to pay for an sistema, police model, in great shape, I mean great shape.

Unless it is an absolute pristine example (and those are VERY few and far between) I'd say that may be a little high for a Sistema, but any quality vintage 1911 will never be a bad buy. The best thing about it is that it IS a licensed Colt copy and if anything goes wrong with it, they're easy to get parts that will fit, unlike some 1911 copies.

Mine is a well-used Buenes Aires Police model and I paid about 300 for it, about 6 years ago. It is very well used, but a nice shooter and I'd never part with it. Theres just something reassuring about a no-frills, vintage 1911 with age on it's exterior that I just love. Kinda like a faded well worn apir of old jeans...comfortable and familiar.

Unless you're a collector and need that rollmark I think you can do a little better. $400 - $450 is a more common range, unless you're talking about one of the 'rare' rollmarks like an Air Force or Navy model.

If you get it, have a good gunsmith look it over for you and do a 'safety check'.

Good luck with it!

Brickboy240 - is yours the Policia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires rollmark?

I have been kicking myself for not buying a nice Air Force Systema for $400 a few months back. I wouldn't pay $500 for a Police model unless it was like new and not refinished. On the other hand, I don't think you would lose much money because they are collectable and not being made anymore. If you really want it, go ahead but it is not the deal of the decade or anything.

Yes, mine is a Policia de la Provincia de Buenes Aires rollmark. There is only the DGFM (FMAP) on the other side of the slide and the serial number, that matches on the frame and barrel. It also has well worn wood checkered grips. It is used, but not abused and is a fairly good shooter.

Is this rollmark rare or desirable? I paid around 275 dollars for the thing years ago..to my best recollection.

the price on these just keeps rising. i'd try to haggle down to 450 & if you really want it 475 is only 25 more.

It's definitely one of the harder to get (at least it was for me!)...The other pretty hard one to find is the C.F.S. (Consejo Federal Seguridad) model.

...And if anybody see's one that has the FM rollmark (instead of the DGFM-FMAP) let me know...only one I'm missing!! :D
