Folks -

I have been thinking about just what are the various sizes of 9mm out there. I Googled for information, but it got confusing.

From what I know so far, there are 3 (three) 9mm rounds out there:

  1. 9X19 Lugar/Parabellum
  2. 9X18 Markoff
  3. 9X17 Kunz or .380

These are the big players, but what else is out there?

9mm:
Luger/Parabellum
Makarov
Kurz/.380
Steyr
Begmann
Largo
Mauser
Browning Long
Ultra
Police
Abadie
Dillon
Nambu
Action-Express
Glisenti
AUPO
Frommer
Nickl
Win. Magnum
9x21 Russian
Danish
Federal
Etc., etc.
Then there are the 9mm rifle rounds...

The major rounds still out there that are called "9mm something" are

9x19, aka 9mm Luger aka 9mm Parabellum, aka just "9mm"
9x18, aka 9mm Makarov
9x17, aka 9mm Kurtz, 9mm Corto, 380 ACP, and some other names.

9x19 and 9x17 are the same diameter, 9x18 is actually a little larger than 9mm diameter. Comparative power increases with caselength (to simplify things to a degree).

There are several other rounds out there that throw 9mm projectiles downrange, including 38 Super, 357 Sig, 9x21, 9x23, and so on. Some are common, some are obscure, and some are obsolete.
