I need strong grip on the front strap and back strap. I was thinking about putting some skateboard tape on my BHP.

Couple Questions:

1. Besides skateboard tape, is there any alternative tape I can put on the front/back strap?

2. Will skateboard tape/something similar destroy the finish (blued)?

:D

I dont know for sure on q1 but if there is its going to be spendy lol .

on q 2. it never has hurt any of the pistols i put it on including hp. I just normaly take it off as part of the cleaning before a trade .

I've read on some forums about people using a kind of tape that 3M makes that is used on stairs to make them (the stairs) safer. It may be 3M Safety Walk. Or something similar. I don't personally know of anyone who's tried it.

My carry 1911 has skateboard tape on it and I love it. Use the search function and you'll find the thread I started on the topic and many others.

The tape is very cheap, reliable and has yet to start peeling off, despite daily carry. I happen to also find it very aesthetically appealing, though others will likely dissagree.

I've got plain old skateboard tape on my CZ 75, both front and back straps.

It sticks really well, just watch out for curves that can cause air bubbles. As far as I can tell my finish is fine but the Polycoat on a CZ is a little different than bluing.

Makes my grip a lot nicer and I think it looks pretty swell, too.

3M makes some sort of ladder/stair tape that some people like. I bought a sheet of skateboard tape at a skate shop for $5. It was 2'x1' and can do at least 3 guns. I've had the stuff on my carry gun for years. Can't say if it hurts the finish since it's never started to peel off and I've never needed to replace it. Looks good, too

I've used the 3M stair tape (found it at Home Depot) and the piece I put on my carry 1911 is still there after at least a year, probably a year and a half. At this rate, I expect to pass on part of the roll to my grandkids.

I use the 3M step tread tape on all my sigs. its a little more coarse then skateboard tape and a little thicker. it take a little effort to cut the stuff to shape, but once its on, it doesn't slip or slide, even if it gets wet... like playing in the mud etc...

I bought a pack from home depot that came with about 6 pieces 3" x 12" that I cut up and used on my own guns as well as a bunch of co workers. I think it was less then $10 and was more then enough to do about 20 guns...

2'x1' should be able to do a lot more than three guns. I bought a sheet that was about 2'x8" and I still have 3/4 of it. I have used it on at least 12 guns, sometimes I have taken it off and reapplied. I have given chunks to a couple of people. It cost me about $6 IIRC and it should be with me for a long time.

I have never had any problem with either a blued gun or a SS gun and I have never heard of any problems so I think you are safe.

In addition to the 3M rubberized tape that people have mentioned, I have seen a faux checkered tape. It looks like metal and had checkering like on a frontstrap. I think that cost quite a bit more than skateboard tape though. The 3M tape doesn't look good IMHO. The A-grip stuff is great if you want a soft feel. I think moleskin might be a cheap alternative but I am not sure if it comes in sections large enough.

I use the stuff they make for bathtubs and showers, cost was under $1 for more than I'll ever use...:D

I was looking around for stair tape and I found another good option: Ultra Thin Baseball Bat Grip-Tape! :D

$5 gets a 1" X 40" roll of it. Just thought I'd pass it on.
