I'm doing the 922(r) game on my Yugo. Since i don't want to replace the fixed magazine with a removable mag (unless someone makes a reliable 10 rounder that doesn't look like a 30 rounder), i figured replacing the hammer, sear, disconnector and trigger would be the cheapest way to go. So my question is who makes 922(r) trigger group parts?

Why are you bothering? The rifle is legal as imported.

Rifles imported as "Curio and Relic" items are exempt from 922r so long as they remain in their imported condition.

The Yugo M59/66 (with the big grenade launching muzzle device) are C&R imports.

wait. what are you replaceing to take the SKS out of the "sporting class" or ( C&R)

You only need to comply with 922r if you are adding evil features that would prevent it from being imported. Removing the bayonet and cutting the barrel do not do that and replacing the stock will only do that if the replacement has a pistol grip, (thumbhole is ok).

You will be making a rifle that no longer has C&R status however and if you were to sell it or ship it, it would have to go through an FFL.

chris in va: C&R guns are exempt from 922r if they stay in 'as imported' condition.

Changing the issued wood stock for an ATI model and/or chopping the barrel takes the SKS out of C&R status and 922r will apply.

Actually, he'll still be exempt from 922r since his rifle won't be in violation of 925d. The restrictions of 925d are the usual, no imported guns with pistol grips, flash suppressors, bayonets, etc..., plus SKS rifles with detachable mags are specifically mentioned. So long as he removes the bayonet and doesn't add a pistol grip he is good to go regarding 922r.

Tapco sells a compliance kit of SKS parts. The tricky thing is replacing the grenade launcher with the American made muzzle device. The grenade launcher can be difficult to remove from the end of the barrel.

I know Murray is working on making these parts, but if you find US-made "hammer, sear, disconnector and trigger" available now, lemmie know.

The first paragraph on page two explains how replacing the stock with a synthetic stock would change it's C&R status meaning you would have to make it 922(r) compliant.

No. That link only says you have to make it 922r compliant if your modifications result in a rifle that is no longer 925d compliant. If you don't have the evil features on your rifle in the first place then it is already 922r compliant whether it has any US parts or not. 925d lists the evil features that result in a rifle that doesn't have a "sporting purpose" and then has a long list of specific rifles that are barred from importation. If your rifle doesn't meet the criteria laid out in 925d, then you must replace enough foreign made parts to make it comply with 922r.

No. There's lots of info there on how it doesn't put you in violation of 922r, like this quote from one of the moderators which was in response to exactly this topic:

"However, removal of the "restricted features" (bayo, bayo mount, GL, etc.) should be all that's required. He just needs to ensure that he doesn't re-add any in the future (T6, folder, detachable mags, etc).

Larry"
