I picked up a Yugo SKS this week & ordered my SKS T6 Collapsible Stock w/ Blade Bayonet Cut & 20 round Mag from Tapco.

Now im in the market for a mount & scope but not sure what to get.

Anybody have a few pics of their Yugo Sks Fully loaded ???

Mounting options are kinda limited. Not much choice beyond a replacement receiver cover w/ rail. Some people have experienced poor fitment, resulting in difficulty maintaining a zero, but mine fits very snug to my Yugo with not wobble at all.

I bought a kit that included the 4x scope, cover w/ rail, & scope rings. I got it for $55 at Cabelas. Its a low-dollar setup, but works well.

This is the link to it on the Cabelas website:

Here's a couple pics of mine. Nothing special, just your normal SKS:

If you really want to glass an SKS, consider the forward scout mounts that replace the rear sight, you just tap out the pin that the rear sight is attached with, and mount in a small rail that allows you to mount a LER scope (Long Eye Relief) a.k.a. a pistol scope, or you can go un-magnified with a 1x red dot or holosight on the forward mount.

The forward mount is the cheapest best alternative for mounting glass besides going with an AK mount to the left side of the rifle and having to permanently alter the rifle.

The upper receiver mounts are considered less than ideal due to the extreme stresses exerted upon any optics mounted on one of these adapters.
If you are familiar with the method of semi-auto operation on the SKS, you will know that the upper receiver cover is not a solid foundation to mount an optic onto. You will find that you will lose the zero of the optic after about the 15th shot, and you will then chase the POA versus the POI all over the paper, getting frustrated and burning ammo for nothing.

Save your money, don't get an upper receiver cover mount. Go with a scout mount or think about what you are trying to do. The SKS (without heavy and intensive modification: read more than the value of the rifle) is not a sub or even 1 MOA rifle at 100 yards due to many factors including sub-par ammo selection, short sight radius, heavy triggers, etc.

I believe that you will eventually find that at least 90% of the after market crap for the SKS is just crap, and most folks eventually come back to its original configuration after dumping 2x's the amount that they paid into the rifle to tacticool it up into something that its not.

Mine has the forward mount that replaces the rear sight, and a Beartooth comb kit. This allows you to raise the comb to whatever height you need to get a repeatable cheek weld. I find the forward mount better than the rear cover mounts for stability, although when you tear it down for cleaning the gas system you'll have to remove the scope. I don't shoot surplus ammo in mind so rarely clean it that well.

I think all the mods shown cost me around $125, but worth it for me. Group sizes with the open sights were running 4-5" due to my tired old eyes, but 2 1/2" consistantly with the red dot.

I've never understood how "scout" mounts work... wouldnt the scope be too far forward? Do they make special scopes for this purpose? Seems to me that you'd have too much eye relief for any normal scope.

Grant,

My post above states: LER scopes are used for the forward mount, in other words Long Eye Relief. Think of a pistol scope, you hold your arms extended in front of you and the eye relief is about 16-20 inches. That is the distance of the scout mount that is being suggested. The focal length is adjusted in the LER scopes to accomodate the extended distance. You are right, you could not use a normal scope on these scout mounts. Most LER scopes have lower magnifications then traditional scopes.
German snipers in WWII used K98 rifles outfitted with scout type LER scopes with great success.
The late Col. Coopers Scout Rifle concept that was picked up by Steyr incorporates a forward scout scope mount.

I have a yugo SKS with the tapco t6 stock... While I don't have it quite yet, I'm going with a NCStar long eye relief scope (14" eye relief) to mount on the rail of the t6 stock. Its an inexpensive scope $40-60

RUBZERK,

200 yards is pushing your average SKS, that being said, go for the scout mount, it is more stable and doesn't allow the scope to get in the way of using stripper clips like upper receiver mounts do.

SKS Scope mount

Hi, I bought the Tapco T6 at x-mas time for My yugo ( actually wife got it for Me ) and it came with a Tri-rail cover that fits nice and snug with no problems with holding zero ,I just have a little red dot and a flashlight attached but it shoots well to 100 yards .............WVleo

Remember changing the stock and mag of a Yugo SKS takes away it's C&R status and you'll have to be careful of parts count. So if you havn't yet buy a compliance parts kit.

Don't forget gas-tube replacements. That's clamped in their pretty good.
