SKS Stock Tension Spring cut to Reassemble Trigger Group

I finally got around to cleaning one of the Classic Arms import SKSs. Cleaned up great but the trigger group would not snap into place, I have had numerous SKSs but never this bad. Safety was in correct position and mag seated. Put it on block of wood and tried a rubber mallet. No luck. Ended up taking the stock spring out and cut 2 coils off. It would not snap in by hand So there was tension. Hitting with the mallet worked. Anyone use this technique? Thanks

I've stripped numerous SKS"s, but I've never had to clip any spring coils or use a rubber mallet and block of wood to reassemble 'em. Usually the trigger group will just push into place, if not, a rap with the heel of the hand on the trigger guard will lock things together.

How hard was it to remove the trigger group when you disassembled the rifle?

Did everything pass safety and function tests after you got it back together?

My SKS requires a rap with the hand to seat the trigger group. I've thought of polishing the catch and the catch hole entrance to make this go smoother, but as soon as I rap the trigger group into place again, I forget about it.

My Romanian was hard to set back. Needed a good hard smack with a mallet or wood.
None of my other SKSs ever needed that kind of treatment.

Wood may have swelled depending on what it was cleaned with or something else was wrong such as warpage--it is possible when you removed the trigger group, if the stock was under tension from some warpage, the removal allowed the wood to relax and block the return of the trigger group. Under the right conditions, wood can act like a spring under tension.
