I have a Yugo 59/66. I'm kicking around the idea of putting a magnifying scope on a scout scope mount. I don't want anything that interferes with empty case ejection. I don't want anything that interferes with the use of stripper clips. Which scout scope mount do you have that meets my criteria? Which scope do you have that meets my criteria? What type of reticle? How do you like it? Did you have to add a cheek weld (or whatever it's called) so your eyes line up with the scope?

One other thing, I will use this rifle for plinking. Distance to target will be no more than 100 yards

The general concensus is that there are no good scope mounts for the SKS that don't require drilling and tapping the receiver.

I've used a Red Dot w/a ScoutScope mount on my SKS. Excellent results.

Of course, the scope does not extend over the ejection area. If you use a rifle magnification scope, either you will hit the scope with the ejected brass or it will necessary to put a shell deflector on your SKS.

You can get a handgun magnification scope for the extended eye relief positioning with your Scout mount that will allow easy loading with stripper clips and not hit the scope with ejected brass.

I don't care for either a side-rail mount or a receiver mount for various reasons. And I'm not a fan of D&T even on a cheap SKS, but that's just me.

Having said all that, within 100 yards I prefer the TechSight TS200 aperture sight.

those peep sights on the back seem to be well received irons work fine too

I prefer a low power magnifying scope. I've owned 5 rifles, four .22 LR's and one .308 Winchester. All wore a magnifying scope. I heard the 2X Red Dots aren't that great, so I'd like to find a short LER or EER (or whatever the term is) for the appropriate scope on a scout mount.

Remember, the 59/66 is imported as a C&R firearm. Any changes void that status, making it a "non sporting" imported firearm- not legal. To make it sporting, you have to remove the grenade launcher, bayonet, and night sights. So long as you keep away from pistol grip stocks and detachable magazines, you won't have further worries.

Would one of the Ulitmak AK mounts work? Might be a dumb question but I know very little about the AK or Ultimak.

do not use a reciever cover mount...i did that thinking that the cover was tight. it still moved enough to give me a 3" group at 50 meters. "thats terrible"
somehow i cant post a pic of the gun here, but you can see it pictured if you search for the thread

i am using a 3x9 mildot scope by leepers...i`m not terribly impressed by the scope, it doesn`t seem to focus and at full magnification it still doesn`t seem to be *zoomed* in. i might just return it for a refund and get something better.
the stock is a "dragunov" with a cheek piece. with the bipod it is extremely comfortable to shoot as the extended stock makes it much more comfortable

as of now, i`m searching for a true side mount frame scope mount to make it rock solid

http://www.scoutscopes.com makes a VERY good mount that doubles as a rear sight. I use a cheap BSA red dot, but will most likely upgrade in the future. Even the cheap optic is way better than the stock irons.
