OK Guys.

HELP!!!

I've used the search function here and over at Shotgun World, but no luck.

I picked up my new SxS Baikal 12 Ga. coach gun the other day and even after a good cleaning and oiling it's still as stiff as a board with a lever spring to open it that feels like its from a '66 Mercury rear suspension.

It's the Bounty Hunter II (hammerless) model, the IZH43.

These things aren't terribly complicated and I'm sure there are "slicking-up" instructions out there but I can't seem to find them.

I'm starting to think about getting into CAS and want to make it a whole lot easier to use before I get started.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to see the wear points, the ones outside the action. A careful application of 4x clover compound should smooth them up.

However, and I say this without knowing the design of the action, some guns have a built in stiffness due to such things as cocking the hammers, cocking the ejector hammers, and other mechanical functions you're forced to overcome when opening the gun. Those are much more difficult to "lighten".

Shoot it a couple thousand times.

Seriously.

SxS and O/U shotguns are often stiff when brand-new, but will become easier to operate after a moderate amount of use. I wouldn't even think about tryin to have anything done until I had at least two to three thousand shells through it.

Shooting a thousand rounds or so should smooth it nicely. BA/UU/R.

Meanwhile, try opening and closing it repeatedly, make sure there's lube on the pivot points.
