I got a 870 almost a year ago and am having a problem with the slide locking up every 5-10 rounds. I have tried polishing the chamber with steel wool and that didnt help. Any other tips? i dont want to send it back as im going dove hunting in a little while. This is with all ammo but seems to happen more often with high brass slugs.

Polishing the chamber worked for me. It only locked up with slugs or powerful buckshot. Trap loads never locked up.

I polished it twice, with steel wool on a brass brush mounted to a cordless drill. The first time helped but it still stuck on occasion. I polished it some more, and now it seems to be OK.

Remington ought to change their design, seems like many people see this problem.

There is remote chance that the bolt/slide release mechanism does not disengage when the trigger is pulled. Dry fire and observe this part(left side of receiver, of course). Next, remove trigger group, check same, and clean unit.

Also, check cut out for locking bolt in barrel extension and remove any crud.

About polishing(or cleaning chamber), we must remember to remove all oil, solvent, or polishing compound as the last step.

I've noticed that quality in shotgun shells has declined, and all the common promo loads are troublesome.

It is not the shells. Remington needs to address this problem. I wish I had $5 for every 870 that has a problem with shells sticking in the chamber.

If you send it to a Remington service center they will just polish the chamber. I would polish it again.
