I have a P229 that I loaned to a friend for a while. The slide came back with moderate scratches. The scratches don't cut down to the bare metal, but still it looks nasty. I was able to rub some of the scratches off with Hopes, but not all of them.

I would like to send the slide into SIG to be refinished. How much does this cost? What is the turnaround time? I wouldn't have to go through the FFL process right?

P.S. Its no big deal, so don't recommend that my friend pay for it. He is sort of new to guns (he has shot plenty before just not as interested in them as I am) and isn't as fortunate as I am so it really is no big deal money/timewise....

The slide is stainless steel. The factory process is not the most durable but I believe they'll refinish the whole pistol for $75. You can get more details from the SIG website under the "Custom Shop."

You can also get other companies to refinish it with finishes that may be more durable, but the cost will be higher.
