I am currently building a Scout rifle off a already sporterized Ishapore Enfield .308 that I just picked up. I am curious of the advantages and disadvantages of going with the Safari over the standard Ching Sling. This rifle has the third swivel point already mounted by the previous owner so that is not a problem.
Thoughts from the forum on this?

Ching Sling

Safari Sling

I would take the Safari over the original Ching Sling. It's simpler to work with.

BTW, Eric Ching (the designer of both) does post here from time to time under the handle Slingster - you might PM him for his thoughts.

Ian:

Mine is the only vote so far, so you can see what my preference is. Besides being easier to use, the Safari Ching Sling is also more versatile in that you can use it on any rifle with standard two-point sling attachments, so your dollar goes further.

I havent tried the Safari sling yet, but I'm a big fan of the original Ching sling. I have one on all my hunting rifles. I even had one on one of my AR15's for awhile. I cant imagine anything could be faster or easier to use than the original, but I'll take your word for it Slingster. Either way, thanks for both. :)

I wish I would have know this before I blew a bunch of money an two old style Ching slings! :fire: Off to the trash dump they go...

Well, when the sling designer says to go with one over the other, I guess that simplifies things a bit :D . Thanks Eric for the suggestion. I was hoping that the safari was the better choice so I could use it with other rifles. Now to come up with some use for that swivel in the middle of my new gun :scrutiny:

Anybody who wants to upgrade their sling from the old to the new, PM me. I'll be happy to provide the old style Ching slings a good home. :D

I guess I should clarify or expand on my comments. There's nothing wrong with the original Ching Sling. In fact, it's probably better overall on an ultralight rifle, whereas the Safari Ching Sling, as the name suggests, is aimed more at the heavier medium and big bores. The Safari Ching Sling is bulkier and heavier, and hence adds more of a penalty if one is trying to minimize weight and bulk.

A sporterized Ishapore Enfield isn't exactly a lightweight gun, and since SapperLeader sounded like he was experimenting with the Scout Rifle concept, it sounded more reasonable to recommend the sling that could be used on other rifles without having to add the middle sling stud on the off chance that the concept didn't work for him.
