Many moons ago I had a slingshot and I took it canoeing with me once-
As far as I know it's still resting on the bottom of the Current River. :(

Well I finally replaced it today. With one of these--

This thing is a good step above the old one I had and once I took the left handed fork off and put the right handed one on I was able to do some real damage to the box they shipped it in.

Any one else takes leisure in slinging a few steel bearings around?

When I was a kid I was so good with one it was a very scary thing. The thing that bothers me is how most people try to aim them. You don't aim them you look at what you are trying to hit and shoot purely instinctively. I was capable of amazing feats.

I remember I had to have my mom buy the replacement bands because you got carded for them  You go through a lot of them too, after a while a relative scored me a whole bunch of latex tubing which was a lot more economical.

Wooden Fork from a tree
Red rubber from a inner tube
Leather for the pocket- from a Rawlings football...remnants
Cortland braided fishing line to tie rubber to fork, and leather pouch...
Marbles, and ball bearing from the fillin' stations...

If it flew, walked, hopped ,strutted, slithered...OWNED :D

Yep I practiced hitting Champion, Blue Rock and White Flyers...some of the shotguns were too big for me....I adapted, overcame and improvised....

resulting in switches, belts being applied to the seat of education....

Learned young about that redundancy bit and having back-ups.... :)

I've kept up the skills...recently just "had to see". Newer ones ...err... different...still take a clay in flight, soda cans off a fence...golf balls...

You for sure don't aim these things...'cause my eyes are not what they used to be...

I keep a wrist-rocket and a bag of marbles on a table near the back door. It's great for running off skunks in the garden or dogs in the trash cans.
Believe it or not, I carried a slingshot in my helmit bag for the 4 years I served as a helicopter crewman in the Navy - a LONG time ago. Most of the time it was extremely boring work, so the other crewman and I would take turns plunking ball bearings into the ocean. Anytime we would get a chance when we were hovering, we would throw out a soda can for a target, but I don't remember anyone actually hitting it. ;)

Little Loudmouth started up a slingshot class in the April THR match.
He plans to do it again in the May match.
You old slingshotters ought to stop by there and see if you still handle one. :D

My slingshot is an ancient old Marksman body that my grandma found in her yard. She gave it to me, and it promptly disappeared into the black hole of my closet for a couple years until I was shooting a friend's old slingshot. I thought "Hmmm...this is cool! I've got to get one of these!" and then "I wonder if I could find that old slingshot body that's in my closet...."

Well, I found it, went over to the local Pamida, bought a Daisy band, and stuck it on there. The second band I bought for it just broke yesterday. Time to scrounge up some money and go to Pamida again...

PS: Good idea, ACP230! Let's have some competition here...
