Hi All, anyone know of a high quality - Pelican style, waterproof and not flexy - rifle case that has internal dimensions of 40 x 10 inches and maybe thinner than the typical 5 or 6 inches?

Basically, I want a small, light, tough, knock-around (TSA) case for a single small/short rifle.

Most of what I've found so far are big/thick and heavy, or too short if intended for SBR's.

Check with shopruger.com. There is currently a 10/22 offered with a scope and hard case on certain sites.. I would assume Ruger sells the case independently.

If you don't mind it being off brand, I have this same case under a different brand name. Size-wise seems to fit, though it may be thicker than you want. I have it for my Mossberg 500, originally got it for my Savave Mark II but with a scope it was a smidge too tight of a fit for my comfort. This picture is with the Mark II and some closed cell foam I cut.

I don't know if it meets TSA standards, but it is tougher than the run of the mill thin plastic case for sure, and the price is decent.

The system I use for all my rifles is to put the rifle into a soft case of the appropriate size and then put the soft case into a hard-shell Plano case of the appropriate size with its foam removed. Has been working spendidly for both storage and transport and can be secured with a padlock. There's enough leftover room in the case to throw in some mags or a bipod or ammo, etc. The cheap 40 in. Plano rifle case sells for around $30 and is plenty sturdy enough for what I use it for. The 40 in. soft cases by Allen, Pit Bull and Bulldog, etc also sell for around $30. This setup isn't waterproof, of course, but it'll sit out in the rain for a while with no problem. Not rigid, either, but it's going to live either in my gun closet, or in my car and is good enough for whatever bumps and knocks it's going to encounter there.

So .... doesn't match the OP's specs, but I've gotta ask: is something meeting those specs really needed, and worth spending the money to get them?

That's a really good idea, doing that would probably have saved me a bunch of money! I can get the cheaper Plano cases for like $12 at their outlet store.

That being said, I do like the weatherproof style cases. Peace of mind for me and I always find mine on sale or at a good price. I custom cut all my interiors as well and the weatherproof cases have dimensions/designs where it's generally easier to do that with. Do I NEED them though? Nope! If I'm honest, the cool factor of weatherproof cases is probably part of it too.
