small game knife

I don't think the sharp knife would be good for gutting , because of the curve . I could be wrong .

Well had to kill about 20min so went back to cabelas and grabbed a 3” sharp finger for $6 out the door. I’ll grab a trapper when the dealer by me puts them on sale again.

Looked at the Cabelas web site, it claims the blade is 7CR17. Based on a web search, this is close to 440A. Another web page claims 7Cr17 is between -.60 and 0.75 carbon, and 440A is 0.65 to 0.75 carbon. 420HC is 0.4 to 0.5 Carbon, so maybe this Chinese steel is harder that what Schrade used to use for their stainless knives. Others can point out the other material differences. I don't have an old Sharpfinger nor a new one, but for $6.88, you can lose forty seven of them, before reaching the price of one of those $325 knives. Which would of course, be better made in all aspects. I don't think anyone is complaining about the price, just about how they think it will perform, so tell us how it does. Does it meet or exceed expectations?

Fits my hand pretty good and the way it’s designed it fits the fingers well. I was looking at something small. Tbh the folders without locks scare me as I sliced my hand open at age 17 and hit the artery or something cause I lost a lot of blood! Any time I’m handling a knife it makes me nervous. The knife was a folder and folded and slipped. I figured $6 see how it does. I do have a case xx mini that would work great but grandpa gave it to me and he passed away 2 weeks ago. I’m so scared of losing it cause it’s an older model too. I would think the point may help with gutting cause I can use just the tip, but I do see it maybe grabbing guts.

The Sharpfinger is borderline too big for small game. It is meant for large game meat processing. Most people use too much knife. I think a Case Muskrat is about perfect for small game. Or something similar.

I use a Case pocket knife for small critters up to turkeys. I know people who do the same even on deer, but I have several different knives I use to skin and quarter deer and hogs.
