I’ve decided to reload 357 magnum ammo. I’ve searched high and low and can’t find any small pistol mag primers. Actually looking for CCI 550 but what else might be available . Plan to use H110 powder. Thanks in advance...

Joe

By Bass Pro in Memphis got in a large delivery of primers just yesterday I ended up getting four hundred of the regular small pistol primers but they had everything you could want where are you at.

I’m in San Di egg o. I’ll call them tomorrow and check online tonight. Thanks a bunch for the tip!

Check various sites often. I was able to buy 3000 from Midway last week but they had a limit of 1000 on each make so I bought 1000 CCI, 1000 Winchester and 1000 Federal. Not ideal but better than no primers at all.

I made a similar purchase of primers from Midway a few weeks ago, buying three different brands. My local BPS and Academy only had large primers.

Because of this latest panic it pays to check sites daily and be ready to buy right now because everything is selling out quick. Stuff like 00 buck really goes quick if you find it at all.

Thanks for the tips. Bass Pro shows them available here and there but only available for in-store pickup. Closest to me is 240mi round trip. The powder I plan to use basicallyexcludes using regular small pistol primers...have to be the magnum primers. Thanks again and I’ll keep checking this thread.

The wait at customer service to pick up might take longer than your drive!:what: Seriously BPS online order/pickup system has not worked well for me with delays, partial cancellations and bad communication.

It's very helpful if you go into your profile and fill out the location information. That way we can tell at a glance where you live.

I could suggest SW Ammunition. But unless you live the DFW area that's not going to help ya much.

I bought some SP from powder valley yesterday. They had SPM primers on their site yesterday, give them a try.

Bass Pro in Cucamonga is a zoo, Turners has been taking appointments just to go inside. I say try for on line stuff if you can.

Good luck, and stay safe.

Well, I was lucky...found 300 about 12 miles from home. He is a dealer in El Cajon, CA that has a very supportive inventory. He said they can’t get CCI 550 because (his opinion) ammo manufactures are scooping it up from the primer manufactures. Math plays a role here...3 major brands cut to two makes 2/3rds. Therefore we make 3/2ves or 150% trying to buy a 100% quantity. That’s why it seems nowhere to be found. It’s like an inflation model when adding $ to the economy.

Oh, I love math.

Thanks everybody!

Where at in El Cajon? I used to live in Rancho San Deigo. I used to be an EMT behind a small LGS.

Just yesterday I ordered 15K CCI 550s from Tombstone Tactical.
Not cheap, but I was seeing much worse while googling 'em.

If push comes to shove you might consider trying some small rifle primers if you have any.
/\ this.

From my testing, there's really very little if any difference between a spm & sr primers and if the gun has good striking force srm are fine too. I reduce the charge a little but I'm not sure you even need to do that, although it's recommended. I use mag primers for everything and all my loads are developed with mags , it just simplifies life. Especially the way things are now, there's no need to be too picky . but test & verify for yourself.

I want to say I saw some Winchester small pistol magnum primers at bass pro recently. My local reloading shops have been wiped out for any and all small primer types lately.

If you can't find any magnum primers, then you could try federal small pistol primers. Federal's primers are usually on the hotter side and I used them in .357 for power pro 300mp which is even slower than h110. Alliant actually recommends them for that powder.

Was not expecting another drought like we experienced a few years ago so soon. Luckily I'm ready for it. This virus thing is definitely stimulating certain sectors of the economy.
